Hi-
This is my first post, so be kind :) I have been backing up dvds for about a year, but I am still a newbie :) I only know one way to backup a dvd (dvd shrink and then nero) lol. I am trying to back up Las Vegas Season 1 and the dvd has a side a and a side b. My question is has anyone backed this up before and if so, how? I looked all over this forum for help and I'm trying something I saw reccommended for another movie: Decryter (file, not iso) and then shrink (files, not disc). I'm just not quite sure what to do next so that I get all of the episodes and not just side a's.
First of all, is the disk a dual layer DVD-9 or does it physically have 2 sides to it. Reason I mention this, is that if it is just a single-layered, double sided DVD, then you can simply treat it as 2 separate discs. Your menus will be intact and all. Just use DVD Decrypter to rip, and if you need any compression, use Shrink. If it is a DVD-9, then you may have to use a dual layer DVD to burn to, or you may have to use more compression than it's really worth, and probably lose the menus altogether. (which I know really sux for episodic DVDs) Also, it might be of interest to you that on October 4, 2005 Lighning UK released ImgBurn 1.0.0. "ImgBurn carries on from where DVD Decrypter left off! (Well, for the burning part anyway!)" link is here:

Here's my experiance with Las Vegas (I've backup Season 1 and Season 2 without a problem.)
The discs are Double Sided Single Layer, basically they made 1 disc side a and side b insted of making it two seperate discs. It's like two normal dvd's glued back to back so to speak. Hope that kinda makes sense.
All I did was Shrink Disc 1 Side A and then burn with Nero. Then Shrink Disc 1 Side B and burn with Nero, etc... The result was 6 burnt discs total. (One DVD-R has Season 1 Disc 1 Side A, another DVD-R has Season 1 Disc 1 Side B)
All 6 discs have everything on them that the originals have, menus, extras, etc.
The compression was around 60-65% if I remember correctly. If you have any questions let me know I'll help you out.
