i am getting an odd boot error...(ps2)

when trying to load anything audio psx or ps2 cd dvd i get an error saying please insert a playstation 2 formating disc. i have never heard of this error before. please help

you laser is dirty (try cleaning it first) or getting weak (which requires adjusting the laser voltage or buying a new one).
