i have a dvd recorder hooked up to a video camera. i record interviews on the recorder. That is fine. However I want to make a copy dvd of these interviews. I have tried to hook up a dvd player and to the recorder. It will not let me record saying it is protected. I have tried DVDXCopy on my pc and it stops after every 30 seconds and then starts again on the copy. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and could really use some help. Not sure if this is the right forum or not but I would really appreciate any advice. The easiest way would be most appreciated.

Did you finalize your disk? Does the DVD have VOB files, if so try ripping it with DVD Decrypter in iso read mode and then open your MDS file and use Decrypter in iso write mode to burn. It is doubtful Xcopy will do this disk.

I have tried DVD-R and rw. And the r has been finalized. I would really like to be able to put the recorded dvd original in a stand-alone dvd player and then make a copy using my stand-alone dvd recorder. I don't understand why there should be any type of protection on it as it was just a blank dvdr that i recorded. I am not really good at the computer thing. Do you have any ideas on how I can do it with just two stand alone units?

I am not understanding why there is any protection on it, unless there is something in the setup of your DVD Recorder that puts it there. My Panasonic Recorder does unprotected recording. I have my DVD player running through the Panasonic and then just record from the player to the recorder with not problem.

:) I don't understand either. I have an RCA and also an Emerson. Neither of them will let me make a copy of the interviews we record. I am using Maxell 4x RW discs right now. I have read in this forum about a video stabilizer, however I don't want to spend the money if it doesn't work either.

I have an older camcorder so it just records to VHS tape, and then I run the tape through a VCR and then the Recorder burns it. Maybe it is something in the setup from the camera to the recorder. I still think ripping the disk on your PC and then burning may be the best method, as your recorders will not allow you to do it. What is the file format of your disk, are the VOB files?

Put your disk in your PC and then go to my computer and check the structure of the disk. See if it contains VTS and IFO files.

I (also a newbie) have what I think is a related question. I backed up my Hi-8 tapes by recording them to DVD-R using my Panasonic DMR-HS2. I finalized them and now have a DVD that I can play pretty much anywhere. It has VOB, inf and bup files. I'd like to take those DVDs and import them into a program like Adobe Premiere Elements and edit them. I don't know how to go from the VOB files to mpeg or something else that an editor would recognize.
