I can't open avi files with Studio Plus 9.4.3 These avi files were encoded from DV camcorder with windows movie maker. Please help. Is there a fix? It simply says "The video file "file location and name" could not be opened.

What are you trying to do with the avis?

I'm just trying to open them up with Studio and put them into the timeline to make a dvd from them. I'm using Studio so I can do menus and everything. Right now I'm using TMPGEnc to convert them to mpg. I can open avis that where made with Studio though. There is something about the avis I've made from my MiniDV camera with Movie Maker that Studio doesn't like. I just don't know. The perfect program for me would be one that had an option that said "Best quality mpg possible" for converting avis to mpg. I just never know if i'm getting the best quality video to my final DVD. Any suggestions? Thanks for the reply so far!!!

AVI is a package name for files encoded in various formats (e.g. XviD, Divx). So not all programs work with all avis. If you must use Studio, you may try change the codec of the avis with e.g. Power Video Converter or Advanced X Video Converter to something that Studio would recognize. You may begin by setting video to XviD and audio to mpeg layer 3 and change the video setting if that doesn't work.

Good luck!
