I have a version 9 ps2 with a network adapter. I want to buy a hard drive which I can load my games on play them. What else do I need and how do I do it?
After you have the network adaptor and the hdd you need hdadvance or hdloader so that you can boot the hdd, you will also need a swapping method I.E. fliptop/slide card/modchip to install backups, if you don't have a swapping method you can connect the hdd to your PC and use a application called WinHIP to transfer the ISO from your PC hdd to the Ps2 hdd. Do you have a modchip or swap magic?
Take a look at the hdadvance website for a list of compatible hdd if your not sure which one to buy, most maxtors & seagates work fine:
thanks for the info. yeah i was planning on getting a 120 gb maxtor, i do not have a mod chip or swap magic, i was hoping there would be a convenient way of doing it without opening up the system and putting in the mod chip. how does it work goin straight from the pc using WINHIP?
There is a convenient way of doing all this without opening anything, hdadvance or hdloader. hda & hdl are disks that you pop in you Ps2 and it loads up the hdd and then you just play the game you want. If you had swap magic or a modchip you could have installed a free hdl onto your memory card.
WinHIP only allows you to transfer images (ISO) from you PC to the Ps2, you need to connect the Ps2 hdd either to a USB slot if it was a USB hdd or to an IDE cable if it was a IDE hdd, bottom line WInHIP is only a fast way of installing games onto the Ps2 hdd unlike the actual Ps2 which takes much longer to install the game onto the hdd.
Personally i would buy swap magic with a slide card (slide cards cost next to nothing) so that i could install an exploit onto the memory card or download a free hdloader thant could be burnt to cd and swapped with swap magic so that i could load the hdd without having to buy hdadvance. Or you could buy hdadvance and a slide tool.
