You will need to encode them into DVD compliant mpeg2 video and something like AC3 or wav audio. Then you will need an authoring program to create a DVD with menus.

No, it is very simple and only takes a couple of minutes.

when you open DVDlab, it has everything organized into categories (actually folders). When you double click menu1, you will get the menu creation screen.

In the media assets window (white rectangle on the bottom left of your screen), there are tabs. Look for the "background" one (right next to the "VIDEO & AUDIO" tab). Just drag and drop one of those to the black menu screen and it will change to the color/pattern of the background you used.

Now look for the text button. It is the button that has this symbol "Aa". It is the second one in the toolbar on the left of the menu screen.

Click somewhere you want text and then a text window opens. Choose your font size and style and begin writing your text (I use 70 for titles and 35 for links). Click OK when you are finished.

You can add button shapes by looking through the "Objects" tab right next to "Background". Just drag and drop. Once you select "objects", new tabs will appear above. These organize objects into catagories to make it easier for users.

If you already have your movies set up you can add links now by right clicking on a text and then selecting "link=>whatever you wnat to link it to". You can link to movies, menus, subtitle streams, audio streams, and resume. The other options are for advanced users.

I like to do my links after I have everything set up. This way, all links are there when I right click on the text or button.

A simple menu can be created in a minute or two. A more complex menu can be done in about 5 minutes. The first time you try it, it will seem hard, but after you do it once, you will see that it is easy.

Just remember to stay within the Dashed line Squares when adding text and buttons.

DVDlab is easier to use than something like Photoshop for creating menus. Mediachance also offers DVD Menu Studio for creating menus, but the menu creation in DVDlab pro is simple and good enough that you will not need it.

The links are what the button will link to when pressed.

After you add text or an object, you can right click on it. You will have a number of choices. Since you will want a button to naviagate somewhere in your DVD, you have to link the button to something.

Open up DVDlab while reading this. Select either normal or advanced mode. Once it starts up, double click "menu1".

Now look at the bottom left of your screen. Select the tab the reads "backgrounds". Now drag and drop one of those to your black menu screen. See how it changes from black to the color of the background you just drag and dropped? This is your menu background.

Now click on the text tool (the "Aa" button). Click somewhere on your menu background and add the text "PLAY" and click OK. You will see that the text "PLAY" is on your menu. Now right click this and a menu will pop up. Highlight "link" with your mouse. It will expand into a new menu. Now highlight "movie1" and the menu will expand once more. Finally highlight and click on "Chapter 1 (movie start)". You have now made a button link. That's it. This works just like selecting a program to open in windows when you use the start button.

You just do the same thing when you add more buttons. You can link to other menus once you create them, or ceratin chapters in a movie or different movies within a VTS.

When you play the DVD, the menu will play. When you highlight the "PLAY" button and click "enter" on your DVD remote, it will move to "movie1 - chapter1".

No need to apologize for asking questions. Ask as many as it takes.

To add a movie, it first has to be DVD compliant. This means it has to have an extension .m2v, .mpv, or .VOB. Your XviD files are .AVI. You need to get a tool that will encode your .AVI to mpeg-2 DVD files.

I use TMPGEnc, but that is NOT free. You can use avi2dvd. It is free and simple to use. Just add your .AVI create a job and initiate the encoding. It will give you a workable DVD, but since you want a menu, you will import the .VOB files to DVDlab pro. You can either drag and drop them into the media assets or right click within media assets, select "import media assets" and find them.

Once you import them, DVDlab will give you a warning message. Since they are .VOB files they will have to be demuxed. Choose the first of the three options that DVDlab pro gives you and the files will be demuxed automatically. After they are demuxed, you will have .mpv and .AC3 files. The .mpv will be the video source and the .AC3 will be the audio source.

Double click on movie1. It will open a new window. Drag and drop the .mpv file to the video section. DVDlab will build thumbnails. Next drag and drop the .AC3 file just below where you dropped the .mpv file. Now you have audio and video. If you want chapter points, drag the slider in the thumbnail part of the window until you find where you want the chapter point. Once you fnid the chapter point, click on the "+" on top of the slider. This will set the chapter. Repeat for as many chapters as you want.

Your first movie is now finished. If you want to add another movie, press alt+m on your keybord. You will now see "movie2" in the project tree. Double click it, and do the same to add a movie there. Repeat until you have all your movies in DVDlab pro.

Once you have your movies, make sure you add links to them in your menus. The simplest menu you can have is a single scene selection menu.

If you have one movie, click on "menu=>scene selection menu=>thumbnail scene selection". DVDlab pro will automatically create a menu from your chapter points. Every menu created will automatically link to menu1, and the scene selection menus next to them... i.e. scene selection2 will link to main, scene selection1 & scene selection3.

You will not need menu1 if you follow this approach, so delete it. Then double click on each scene selection menu and delete the button that pointed to Menu1. Your DVD is now finished. Save, then compile your project. After that you can burn the DVD folder, or import it to DVD Shrink and set the output to "ISO image file and burn with Decrypter". Use the Shrink/Decrypter combo if you do not have burning software.

TMPGEnc will give you separate sound and video, unless if you tell it to give you .mpeg (I think ES option for separate and System option for .mpeg).

avi2dvd will give you .VOB files, but if you check up on your temp folder, you can copy and paste the demuxed files before they are put together and deleted.
