I have both the first PS2 and the newer, thinner PS2. I literally want to do everything possibly can to them. I literally dont have a price limit so feel free to give me any kind of advice you can. I want to know what mod chips are the best (maybe 3-4 different ones), what I should regarding a hard drive, etc, and anything else that would be cool to do. I want to do mainly hard modding but maybe some soft modding if its cool enough, but preferably hard mods...

you all can make lists and explanations. feel free to show me anything. i am trying to get really good at modding so please be specific when explaining the different chips and hard drives and stuff...

best mod chips:
DMS4 Pro and Matrix Infinity (that's the only 2)
the rest are ok but those are the top of the food chain
and if doing it in the slim get a laser fix too
Comsoft V4 or Summone laser fix

Other mods:
Replacement cases in colors
vinyl skins
painting the cover yourself

see these pictures for inspiration

hard drive: Maxtor seems to be the most popular

if money is no problem then just buy a premodded console
with the chip already installed. or else you will have to send it out to have the chip installed. Unless you are brave
enough to try it yourself which there have been many horror
stories that can come from that. Most people have the
"i think i can" attitude, which is great, but when it comes
to installing a mod chip you REALLY have to know what your
doing to do it right and REALLY have to have great soldering
skills.
just take a look at what some good installs look like
notice how tiny the wires and solder points are.

i'm really good at soddering. i am going to be doing this with a few other people that have a bit of background with this stuff. that whole point of this project is for learning purposes. and if we somehow kill a PS2 we can just go buy another one.

after installing all of the mods, is there some kind of operating system that can be installed on the hard drive like you can do on the Xbox??

not that i know of for the PS2
not sure if you know this already but good chips
do have to have flash upgrades installed
on them.(DMS4 and Matrix Infinity for example)
I would truely not choose any other, they are the
2 best put there. Others are cheaper in price, but there is
a reason for that.
And any V12 should have a laser fix installed too.

ig33k Im with steimy the 2 best in my opinion r DMS4 lite/pro & Matrix Infinity. The easiest mod however is SwapMagic with Slide Card or The Dix_Fix(my drawer opening mod)This doesnt void warranty as u r not actually opening the console.
