What about a 'Sin Bin' for naughty members?

There has been a lot of chat recently about the number of people getting banned from Afterdawn.
It seems that some of you think the mods are far too eager to ban people rather than give them a warning.
So my suggestion is, 'what about a sin bin?
Members that cross the line for the first time get put in the sin bin (made inactive) for, say, 24 hours. Second time will get you a weeks ban.
If your stupid enough to break the rules again or cause trouble after that then you deserve to be banned for good.
So instead having 'inactive' under your nick the first time you upset people, it would say 'Sin Bin' and you would be given another chance. Then when you came back we could all make fun of you.

look dude, let it go, you were banned for good reasons and thats that. if you continue to go on with it, you'll hit number 3 soon, then 4,5,6,7,8.... just get on with your life and start helping people like you are capable of doing, and kindly STFU about it.

I Agree with AK
Another Aust Internet forum i go to, they have a 'Penalty Box'
Here is a short snip of the top of the rules

Basically if you do something wrong, you get put in the Penalty box for x period, depending on what you did.

we are working on a temp ban thing, it's been talked about for a while. there is also talk of a way to let deserving members stand out like they used to, instead of this "anyone can achieve any rank by making tons of useless posts" crap.

@UncasMS_3, personally I would say if you keep up that attitude you will get banned again! Also, they have a special thing called "IP Ban" that makes it so your IP cannot connect to aD again if they need to they can (and sometimes do!) use it. I am not a mod, so I try not to act like one but, at times it is called for.

AD is quick when it comes to banning and doesnt give a fuck when it comes to removing something - this is what is wrong here in this forum
people like me get kicked in the butt for nothing but contributions i made are welcome and it seems nobody wants to delete this very posting

personally, i don't think we need anything like a sin bin. rule breakers get warnings, and if they keep breaking rules, they are deserving of a ban. they either go away, or make a new account and come back. most of the time they learn their lesson, sometimes they don't and then get banned again. it seems kind of a waste to be to put more cush in the system and give rule breakers more slack. personally, i don't think enough people are getting banned. if they don't have the respect for AD and its members to read the very basic rules and follow them, they shouldn't be members.

lol i looked at nephs posts and he bans for the right reason, i wonder how sumone noes exactly when to ban sumone
P.S i think the penality box is a good idea, people can get a sense of wut the member is really like can *stalk* him/her until they do sumin really wrong

Ok, I am not going to say anything because I hate starting fights on the coolest forum on earth but I do have one thing I would like to mention:
I am kind of torn on this idea. On one hand, as Auslander said, the aD rules are very basic and straight foward (and a temp ban thing would put more strain on the system) but, on the other **some** people will learn their lesson if a "Ban box" comes into action.

ok if you want your guide gone i think thats fair, gimme a link and i'll do what i can. If it's in the regular user submitted guides section i can take care of it, but if it's in the other one then i'll PM the link to an admin and explain the situation because we have no control over editing that section. but if i do, for christ sake can we drop the whole flip thing? i refuse to take sides on this one because i feel you both could have handled things a bit differently, but it is something that is surely not worth going on this long with.

Come on, what the hell you all fighting about lately? I really need some PMs (private messages, not premenstrual syndrome btw) from you guys to explain what the hell is happening here?
This is not the place for stuff like that, PM inbox is. If users are unhappy with the way they are treated, they are most welcome to write an explanation in aD feedback forum for admins to read WITHOUT comments from other users unless they are absolutely necessary (like if a guy posts about killing old people and gives detailed instructions on how to make their wheelchairs blow up and posts pics of his past examples, gets banned, then claims he did nothing wrong).
I'd like some feedback feedback anyone who wishes to talk to me about anything (aD related!). I'm not really a moderator, im a staff member as most of you know (drd just never got around to giving me a different status ;-) ) but ye I can act as a middle man if need be. I promise anything said in good faith will be treated that way, you're not going to read your PM in the safety valve or anything like that, it's just that feedback is needed to settle situations.

I have to admit i was "surprised" to see some users banned recently, and would like to know how it all happened.

Oh and On Topic, i do agree with agent-k, some kind of warning system is best idea instead of having to ban people permanently on the spot!
