Just thought I would let you all know about a problem I had with some DVD backups. sometimes I would get pixelizing and severe pausing on the odd movie mainly towards the end and put it down to bad media, but recently I found that by giving these discs a good clean (starting from the inside cleaning towards the outside of the disc) with a damp tissue the discs now play perfectly.
I'm not sure what I am cleaning off the discs has they already look perfectly clean but maybe there is some kind of "after burn residue" on some of the discs. Anyway now I clean every disc immediatley after burning and since then I have not had a single problem.
Hope this info helps others out there or maybe some of you have simular problems.

JUK,

Thanks for sharing this simple tip. I'll give it a go, no harm in doing that, is there ?

Not if you use a lint free cloth... But it will definitely cause damage if you use a steel wool cloth to wipe it.

princo's.

I a 50 pack first. They seemed to work fine. Then I bought a 100 pack and they seem to be worthless. They play okay on my burner but they start skipping half way through in my ps2 and rca 5 disk player. Oh yeah, I tried cleaning them, it did not work. I wish that it did. :(

I have a feeling you guys are using nero to burn and that intermittently causes the problems. If you try building the image using ImgTools and dvddecrypter to burn you will have no pixelling/freezing etc... Its in the doom9.org guide "Split a DVD to 2 DVD-Rs". Let me know how you guys get on.

I've had the same problem. I solved it by buying a Grade A brand media. Cleaning the disc did nothing for me. Almost everytime you have a problem like this, its because the media is poorly made. Cheap media = poor results.
