K i have run into a little problem. My little brother scratched my Swap Magic DVD Loader disc. I was curious if there was any loader program that can be burnt to a CD that will allow me to boot DVDs. Ive read about the cogswap method but i dont own and PS1 games(yes i know they are cheap but i dont want to buy one, ive already ordered another swap magic disk set) Basically what im wanting to do for the time being is use the Swap Magic CD Loader along with another loader to load DVD based games. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

No you can't burn Swap Magic. You need an original pressed copy for it to work. So you'll just have to wait until your new copy comes in. Search the site for Cogswap for more info on that. I wouldn't bother it with it though as a ton of people seem to have it difficulty getting it working.

i agree, wait for your new copies
You can burn Swap Magic but it would be like any other
back up, you would need an original Swap Magic to load it
so the process is pointless.

if you have a usb jumpdrive, just load the swap magic cd and then load cog swap from the usb drive and then swap and go.

You can use the swap magic cd to load cogswap or cd loader and go from there (no ps1 game is needed, but a big original ps2 dvd game is required).

I can never get the TOC Refresh to work correctly. I have a v12 with the slim tool(3 little pieces to block the eject sensors) the biggest game i have is GTA III(something like 4.33GB) If someone can fill me in as to how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Ive also read around that there is some way to get the swag magic dvd on your memory card and by using a trigger disc it would load it. Problem is for the trigger disc you need a ps2 game i guess.

oh, then you might not be able to do it. The ps2 has to know your putting in the original to refresh the toc, so you could try removing a sensor cover and putting it back in or something.

Yeah thats what i do to get the TOC Refresh screen to come up. Only problem is i put the original ("high" TOC disc) and then replace the piece and it loads(says not valid ps2 game at the bottom of the screen, apparently it always does that) and then the disc doesnt stop spinning for me to switch games, but if i hit x it loads the toc disc which isnt what im looking for.

It really shouldnt matter what game it is seeing as im certain the TOC size of just about any game has to be larger than the Swap Magic CD(CD Loader)disk.

The toc size of the original your using has to be bigger than the backup your loading, not the swap magic disc.

I realize this, but when i put in the disc to refresh the TOC it just spins around forever. It doesnt stop or prompt me any point to load the backup. This TOC Refresh thing isnt very well explained.

I hear ya it just sucks not being able to play all the games i have backed up already. Im very impatient, especially waiting for things that i really like to use. I swear little kids(little brother is 10 yrs old) are incapable of keeping discs free of major scratches. I also had another question does anyone ever get the playstation logo on the screen inside a grey box(looks all pixeled) when loading the swap magic disks. Sometimes it does it other times it doesnt, i think the SMD's are poorly manufactured.

Yeah I know what ya mean I'm chompin at the bit to get my PS2 chipped, damned tuition lol. As far as the pixelated SMD are you using the scratched disc? I've heard similar things as far as the discs being made in China and being cheap presses full of bugs. Strange since I think it's the same company who makes Breaker Pro, which works great.

If I am reading you guys correctly, Breaker Pro is good to go for loading backups of PS1 to PS2 only.........If you want to use your PS2 backups, then you have to go with swap magic? Also, is swap magic the best alternative to mods? Read about the solderless mods, however, also read negative feedback about them not working. I am looking for the best "fool proof" method so I can backup my PS2s and PS1s and not worry about getting the originals scratched.
Everyone seems to have an opinion, then someone shoots holes in that method. Please advise. Thanks guys.

Well it's matter of opinion and usage. The best way to play your games with no swapping or rebuilding is a high end modchip like the Matrix Infinity or DMS 4. After installation and paying for the chip, you're looking at $100-$110. Swap Magic is effective and inexpensive. It doesn't support DVD-9 or dual layer games and some games over 4.38 GB's have to be rebuilt. You need to use Swap Magic with a flip top or slide card on the old PS2, or a slim tool, flip top, or ghost switch on the slimline PS2. You can pick up Swap Magic with a flip top for around $35. Of course Swap Magic doesn't play PSone backups, for that you need a modchip, Breaker Pro, or game shark lite. Breaker Pro works great. It works with the slide card or flip top. If you want a cheap but reliable modchip, check the Magic Duo2SE. Here's some info on modchips: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Slide card: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm Flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm
