I tried to decrypt two DVDs with DVD DECRYPTER but it did not work.
Also tried DVD SHRINK and it also was a bummer.
It worked fine so far with all the other DVDs.
Has anybody heard something about the die color on the DVDs not letting DVD DECRYPTER do the decrypting?
I was told that the blue died DVDs cannot be read on certain DVD players.
Any comments?

Are these original dvds or backup copies? What are the titles of them?
If original,try AnyDVD by slysoft.It's a background ripper to help many rippers to pull off the newer encryptions.
Original dvds are pressed in,so no dye is used.They are silvery on the bottom.
Dvd+ and dvd- r will have a purple dye.
Dvd+rw and DVD-RW will have a gray dye.
The main thing about the dye,is the quality.The cheaper manufacturer's dye can break down quicker.It can also be uneven-especially on the outer edge,so a reduced backup target and a slower burn speed is necessary.Those backups also don't have a long life span and stand alone players definetely have a harder time with them.
That's why you want quality media like Taiyo yuden and Verbatim data life plus.They feature the metal azo dye and are some of the best.
Now if those 2 dvds are backup copies that you are trying to re-rip,then usually the media quality is the issue.

There are a number of other ripper and decrypter programs out there that will function when DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink will not do "it" by themselves. A little reading in these forums will provide you many choices and combinations to continue to be successful in copying your "original" DVDs.

The DVDs are originals, with a scratch here and there.
It starts decrypting and hangs at 32%.
I will try the program AnyDVD and see the results.
Thanks for the info on the DVD dies.
I was trying to burn them on SONYs (japanese).

Thanks Saugman for the dye tip. I did some digging on dye technologies. I was able to figure out what was happening to my cheap disks. I could be a poster boy for cheap disks but I am paying now. A large portion of my disks have degraded. I am salvaging what I can. I had been mystified as to what was "killing them". Some of my oldest disks 48/60 months old were perfect while some less that 12 months had aged poorly. I had figured out that anything my eldest son would never watch were all perfect reguardless ot the age. He is too sluvenly to put the disks back in the box. Instead he leaves them out upside down so they do not get scratched. Cheep disks scratch easy. They often pick up dust upside down. I assumed it was the dust that was the culpret. I was wrong, it is the light. Sun light will bleach out any dye. Light is the biggest part of the burned DVD aging process. The better brands hold up better but all dyes need to be light sensitive in the burning process. I would keep this in mind when storing the disks. The thin jewel cases let light in while the expensive boxes and the super cheap envelopes do not.

We never imagine that little things can cause big problems.
I also was a cheappo DVDer. I learned my lesson too.
I keep all of my DVDs in the dark away from sunlight.
The bad part is to find good DVD.
The majority is from TAIWAN, INDIA and other dubious places.
I have a stockpile of those cheapos that I bought at COMPUSA, thinking that it was a good deal.
I use them to send stuff to my (ehemm) FRIENDS 8>)
By the way AnyDVD worked fine and did the trick.

Great to hear that anydvd is working out for you. Keep using the good media,and majority of your issues will be prevented.
Not all taiwanese media is poor.Verbatim data life plus,Ritek,and Ricohjpn are some very good taiwanese media,once you figure out which ones they are.
BTW: Those office depot brand 8x spindles are made by ritek.Very good sales on these every now and then.Last sale they were 25 cents each! They are working just as great as my verbs and tys.Only time will tell which ones are the best.

The other day I went to TARGET and found 25 packs of SONYs 25DPR47LS3
mde in JAPAN.
They also had them MADE IN TAIWAN. Is the quality the same?
I believe that SONY cares about it´s products (hopefully).

Novon, stick with the japanese made Sonys. I believe they are Taiyo Yuden.

n0v0n:That's seems to be holding true with their 1x-8x media.Their older 1x-4x and 4x media NOT!
What I don't like about sony,their dash format uses the same MID codes.Sony08D1,made in both japan and taiwan and pretty good.
Their dash 1x-4x,coded sony04D1,made in both taiwan and austria and a little shakier.!
Sony +1x-8x are very good from both taiwan and japan.Yuden000-T02 on the japanese and SonyD11 on the taiwanese.Both perform great,but why get the taiwanese when you can get the yudens for the same price?
Staples have them on sale this week.
I'm not sure of the MID code on those compusa discs.Some of that store brand media is scary.

I will go to STAPLES and check the TYs out.
I still have some VERBS DataLifePlus in my stock too.
Made in TAIWAN and the Company is subsidiary of MITSUBHISI (maybe I get a free SPYDER one day).
...and by the way I used the program DVD identifier (Ibelieve) to check those SONYs out...but the program did not identified them.
I placed check marks on everything that was available and still would not give me a positive ID. Funny...

If dvdidentifier couldn't recognize those sonys,then sounds like you may have to check for the latest firmware update for your burner.

I believe that DVDENCRYPT has a disk check feature that ided my disk as one from a company called Ritek? It should work for you as well. Another factor to consider is storing your recordable disks in light proof cases like the zippered kind as light over time can affect the useful life of recordable disks. Somewhere I read that florescent lights can be bad as well.
