First tried to rip using DVD Shrink, then tried to use DVD Decyrptor so I came on the message board and saw that others were having the same problems. I downloaded AnyDVD and tried DVD Decryptor again. The dvd ripped but when I used DVD Shrink it said "Invalid Data" in a VOB file. I downloaded DVDFab and again the dvd ripped (with AnyDVD in the background) but run into the same problem with using DVD Shrink saying "Invalid Data in file VTS_02_4.VOB" I downloaded DVD43 and tried it in the background andwent thru the process again but with no success. It has been rare that I could not find the solution on this message board on past problems. I tried each procedure that people have posted but it has not worked. Has anyone else just not been able to copy this movie?

I had problems with this movie also, but finally got it done. What I did was use DVD Shrink w/ DVD 43. Just shrink then it reauthor it with shrink. You only get the movie, but that's all I can help with.

Lots of people had problems backing up this dvd. I know that DVDFab Decrypter works and AnyDVD will work on it.
DVDFab Decrypter - www.DVDIdle.com/free.htm (free)
Anydvd - www.Slysoft.com (try the 21 day trial)
Run AnyDVD in the background when you are using DVD Shrink.
With DVDFab Decrypter, rip it on your HD, then Select the re-authoring mode in DVD Shrink, find out where you ripped it to, then drag the file into the DVD Structure.

@bearhock
DVD FabDecrypter has been updated as of 6-oct and
Quote:
using DVD Shrink saying "Invalid Data in file VTS_02_4.VOB"
is the very error Fab says it fixed with the latest update;
Quote:
2.9.5.2 Beta3 (10/06/2005)
2.9.5.2 Beta3 (10/06/2005)
- Change: Correct VOBU when removing "Sony ARccOS protection".
This should fix DVD Shrink error "Invalid data in file ...\VTS_02_4.VOB"
when opening files of "Lords of Dogtown" (US).
I would use DVDFabDecrypter to extract the movie to HD, then use Shrink to encode/burn. Fab and AnyDVD are two programs that have been updated specifically to handle the encryptions on this movie.
Don't give up, it can be done. They put out a new way of stopping copying DVDs, and within a week of movie being released, fixes are out. Seems like they spend more time and money trying to keep people from making a copy (sony probably spent months designing this new anti-copy thing, and it took only a few days or less to defeat it).
Fab decrypter is free so give it a try.

Wow! Hey movies? You were able to back it up just using shrink, no other tool like AnyDVD, dvdfabdecrypter, etc? If you did then that was a good pressed dvd. I almost gave up, but persistance paid off.

I ripped it with DVD Decrypter successfully into my hard drive. Have Nero Recode 2 encode the movie and backup with Nero Burning Rom.

I tried DVD Shrink to start with,it wouldn't even recognize that there was a disc inserted.Tried activating AnyDVD,same problem.OK,lets try plan #2!

I then used DVD Decrypter, ripped successfully to hard drive.
But when I tried to open up DVD Shrink to compress,
I got the same Invalid dvd structure when I went to open it with DVD Shrink.AnyDVD again wouldn't do anything.OK, Lets try plan #3!

After reading some posts on this movie from other ad members,I tried my dvdfab decrypter. Same invalid dvd structure when getting DVD Shrink to open it. I had a heck of a time updating dvdfab decrypter to 2.9.5.0,but finally getting it updated, same problem!OK,Lets try plan #4!

I then downloaded the free trial of dvdfab decrypter express version 2.9.5.0 along with AnyDVD and got it to rip to my hard drive, just like the other programs.DVD Shrink finally was able to open it up so I could do the normal backup process. That is 1 pain in the a** encryption.

Bearhock:

Plan #4 worked for me, using dvdfab decrypter express 2.9.5.0/anydvd 5.4.4.1/dvd shrink 3.2/and Nero 6.0.0.21b to burn! Whew,I ran out of options, but thanks to the fine folks here at AD,I was able to back it up! Keep up the fine work all!

Go to idledvd for the express version of dvdfab decrypter. You get a 30 day free trial. I and some other members couldn't get the regular free dvdfab decrypter to work, but the express version worked.

It burned like a charm for me using AnyDVD + CloneDVD2. My son tried it earlier on his pc (same 2 proggy's) and it wouldn't work. I was laughing at him because he said it was "annoying" when AnyDVD kept popping up that there was an updated version and he never clicked to update. I updated his proggys, he tried it again and it worked. DUH! Hard to believe sometime he is a college graduate.:)

I just used DVDFab Decrypter and Shrink and it worked. I did have AnyDVD running in the background. I am new to the burning but just look through the other forums and you will find a step-by-step instructions on how to do it with DVDFab. I tried doing in with DVDDecryptor and Shrink and it locked up.

Started backing up Lords of Dogtown two weeks ago. DVD Shrink, Nero Recode, DVD Decyrptor, DVDFab 2.9.5.2 Beta2, and current version of AnyDVD failed with all the known errors. So with AnyDVD running, I windows copy/paste Dogtown onto my drive. Just sat back and waited for a updated version of FAB or AnyDVD. This week spotted DVDFab 2.9.5.2 Beta3, downloaded and installed it. Ran it against my HD copy, delivered a readable file to DVD Shrink. Sometimes you just have to let the world catch up.

After hearing about all the problems with trying to back up LOD, i decided to try to rip it. I have AnyDVD running in the background. First i put the movie in and AnyDVD saw it. Tried to open disc in shrink (without extracting to HD) and got invalid disc navigation structure. Ripped to HD using DVD Decrypter File Mode with AnyDVD running in background. Opened up in Shrink using open files tab, and it worked. Original movie was red bars (my shrink is set to 4300) so i unchecked some languages. Movie was still slightly large so i did an ISO copy to HD using shrink. It warned me that the ISO would be too large to fit on a DVD5. I let it do it anyways. Then i opened the LOD ISO in shrink, and shrunk it again. Copy came out fine, and has all the extras (except some languages) It plays the movie too, not just extras like some ppl reported as the only thing being copied for them. Maybe i waited long enough for programs to come up and crack this. This movie was a slight challenge, but it didn't stop me from making a copy. Good luck in whatever method you use.

Thanks for the help. Leave it to Sony to put up a fight. Not much of one.

DVDFab with AnyDVD 5.4.4.1/running in background for the rip. DVDShrink to fit. Works great. AnyDVD even had this movie specifically listed with the new features list for this version.

Thanks again for the tips. I've been a DVD Decrypter user for quite some time even though development is over with that project. Looks like this is going to be a whole new year in 2006 with copy protection.

Later!!
