Get TMPGEnc and the VFAPI Quicktime plug-in. They're both free.

You get the tools as usual:

...and btw. what the heck does this have to do with digital camcorders? Post to correct forum rooms, please.

All I found at that URL was a search engine, I entered VFAPI as the search term and got lists of articles about VFAPI but nothing about Quick Time and no download links as far as I can tell.
For someone who thinks he knows about it you have not been helpful, newbies like me need a full URL link to a place where the necessary software can be downloaded rather than being told to search somewhere without really knowing what to search for.

Hey Guys,

anyone interested in a solution???

This topic (or something very similar) was raised in a previous thread, WITHOUT RESOLUTION, it seems:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/message_reply.cfm?thread_id=43219&forum_id=40

This is ONE way of doing it:

WARNING: TAKES TIME AND DISK SPACE (temporarily)

1 - QuickTime 6.x NEEDS to be installed (default installation)
2 - install any codecs you might want to use
3 - Install Bink from Rad Game Tools:
http://www.radgametools.com/default.htm
4 - Run Rad Video Tools
5 - Browse to and Highlight the file you want to convert
6 - click Convert A File
7 - leave the default output
8 - make sure Convert Video AND convert audio are TICKED, everything else cleared
9 - click Convert
10 - choose the compressor you want to use (I always use Full frames, HUGE files but best quality)
11 - configure codec if you wish
12 - click OK
13 - wait while it processes, click Done.

You now have a file of the type you chose.

I Usually at this point feed the file into TMPGEnc to create a DVD-Compliant MPEG 2.

It works for me.

Have Fun..
