I'll just spill info and hopefully some caring soul can help me put things together. My wife and I are about a year into editing our digital video but we started getting screwed upwhen we started doing stuff for friends.

Here's the thing. When we capture video from a DV camera or our Digital 8, all is well. We've used Windows Movie Maker, NeroVision, and Adobe Premiere with varying degrees of success.

We recently got footage from a friend from his DV that he put on DVD to send. Of course everything is in VOB, IFO, and BUP. Now, I'm pretty sure that the VOB is the video and audio, IFO and BUP are info and backup, right? When we use Nero and import all supported files, only the VOBs show up which I assume is normal. We get about 80% of the video available for importing, but if you just play the DVD in the drive you get about 20 minutes that don't show up in nero. How do we get it? Its good stuff.

Forgive me for being video illiterate. I'm pretty savvy with computers, but video is beyond my scope at this point. Our knowledge goes only as far as open Nero, import video, cut and paste, and burn. When things go wrong, we're lost.

Just for the sake of info, I'm using a PC, XPpro, plenty of HD and 2gig RAM. If we make this hobby more frequent, I'll be uprgrading to 4gig :) Sometimes it gets a little jumpy when we burn it and I can only assume thats a memory thing.
