hey guys,
i already used the search function, but i haven't found, what i'm looking for. can somebody tell me how to use the usb-extreme software on my external usb-drive? the format tool says something about creating a ntfs-partition of the full size if my harddrive. does it have to be full size or can it be just one partition? can i also use fat32 instead? thanks buddies!

You are suppost to partition it fat32 if u want games to work. But you can make 2 partitions if u want media files, fat32 for games and fat for mp3's and such. You might wanna go to the usbextreme website they have a walk through on how to install it. You need to download the usb win or dos installer in order to install games anyways.

I am also having problems with using USB Extreme. I have had no problems loading the games to my hard drive enclosure, but I am having a problem loading the USB Extreme disc in my PS2. My PS2 is unmodded and it IS NOT the slim model. When I put my USB Extreme CD in the PS2, the red browser points out that I need a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc". Here are the following specs on my PS2:

Console SCPH-39001
Browser 1.2
CD PLayer 1.2
Playstation Driver 1.10
DVD Player 2.124

Do I need swapmagic or something like that? I thought with USB extreme that an unmodded PS2 would be workable.

Thank you for the link. I have read that same thread and it is still not very helpful. Tokijin are you saying to USB advanced, I need some boot method (if so can you recommend one), or are you referring me to an open thread that is reporting similar USB extreme problems?

Q. If I download it will it still work in my ps2 without a chip in it or do I have to buy it?
A. Won't work without some kind of mod/boot method.
You need a mochip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 or Swap Magic 3.6: http://swapmagic3.com/ I myself am getting a DMS 4 Pro the best modchip there is. It depends on cost. If you want a good mod chip there really are two: the Matrix Infinity or the DMS 4. If budget is a concern then the Magic Duo2SE is around $20 and very reliable. Now unless you're an excellent solderer you will need to pay someone to solder the chip for you. That can cost around $35. If you don't wanna bother with that then go with Swap Magic. It is a boot disc which you swap with your backup in order to run it. To use Swap Magic you need a slide card or flip top. That would eliminate the need for a HD loader, unless your concerned with loading speed. Any of these should boot your HD loader disc. Here's a tutorial for using a HD loader: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#hd%20loader That's a lot to digest, but should help you narrow down your options.

Thank you very much Tokijin. That was very helpful. I was also reading somewhere that there is a memory card exploit which will allow you to boot a non-playstation disc. Is this true?

From your last post, the note from USB Extreme that no mods are necessary to run their software is untrue.

Well it's true for a pressed copy of USB extreme, I'm sure, just not for a back up. There are memory card exploits, but they involve using a an original game and your memory card to boot PS2 games. This does work, but a ton of people seem to have difficulty with it. Here's a guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289
