hi ive just had my matrix infinity chip installed but nothings changed! i cant play backups only originals, its like its not even installed! the only problem i can see is that where the 3.3v wire goes is different on mine. i used the pal v12 diagram and on that it shows it connected to a component with 50 on it, but mine is a v13 and its a much smaller component with 202 written on it. is this where i should have connected it?

have you upgraded your infinity firmware?
one good way to test your installation is to press the start button on your joypad and turn your PS2 on, this should give you a disbled message on your tv.
check the link below, it tells you how to upgrade your infinity and were to get the firmware upgrades:

I bet your problem isn't with the power to your chip. I've had this problem before and it has always been with my BIOS connections (M-W) Mostly M N O & P, but that is becasue I mostly Mod v4 and v7 PS2's and you need to solder directly to the chip which can be very weak. Here's how I test my connections:

If you look closely at the board, you'll see that each pad will run down a line and eventually run into a "Pin Hole". Set your DMM to Diode testing, or 2K Ohm if you don't have a Diode testing mode. Place one probe into this pin hole, then put the other probe on the corresponding connection on your Infinity chip. If the number drops from 1 to 0xx then the connection is good. If it stays at 1 then you need to re-solder that connection.

It is also a good idea to test the connections on either side of each pad to make sure you don't have a bridged connection. However usually if you bridge a connection you have the opposite problem where the MATRIX logo shows up, but the Playstation OS won't load.

If you are having a problem with broken connections, remember that a Glue Gun is your best friend! Tack the wire in place before you solder the connection and it will be 10x less likely to break. Don't worry, the glue is completely non-conductive.
