audio is what takes most of the blank, just leave one audio, not subtitles, and kill all the credits at the end of the movie.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I always take out the DTS audio, the foreign language tracks I don't need, any director's commentary (if I don't think it will interest me), and if I do the whole disc I will remove the audio from the menus altogether, change video compression on the menu to still frames, and crank the compression all the way down on the special features. Even with the larger discs, such as Sin City, the quality of the main movie remains outstanding.

Also remember to use quality media, like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, and to burn at 4X with all unnecessary background programs shut down.

MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value
Audio Adapter Creative SB0317 Audigy LS Sound Card, Liteon models,SHM-165H6S, 167to6c, All burns exclusively on genuine Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media!

If there is a choice to delete one or the other of the LPCM or AC3 audio streams, what would be the best compromise? I am not sure if the following is accurate but I think it summarizes the trade offs.

Deleting LPCM stream:
- Better video due to less required compression
- Loss of the higher quality audio stream
- Multi channel surround sound capability left intact

Deleting AC3-5.1 stream:
- Better audio from remaining LPCM stream
- Lesser quailty video due to more required compression
- Loss of multichannel surround sound (?)

I have a Stones concert that includes both streams and is about 160 MB too big to copy without deleting one or the other. I am not sure what is the best approach.

AC3 5.1 ch English is the only sound stream I leave ticked. I untick anything else, unless compression is no issue. I untick all subpictures, directors commentary, and even cut out most of the beginning and ending credits.

Great sound from my 32" stereo tv!

With the 5.1 audio my surround system still sounds great! I'm with Saugmon, that's the one I always keep.

saugmon,

How are you getting rid of the credits? When I do MOVIE ONLY - the credits are attached to the "movie only" part. I use Shrink.

Just after you click reauthor and drag main movie over, you'll see an icon with 2 arrows,1 facing right and 1 facing left.Click the arrows icon, then 2 small view screens will pop up.The top screen is frame start and bottom screen is frame end. Just use the slide bar or little arrows to set your frames,Set them to where you desire and click ok and that is all she wrote!

I can reduce the compression by 4 or 5% by eliminating majority of ending credits..

WHAT!!!!

Thanks saugmon!!!!!

Hey I wonder .... do you think that would work if I am trying to keep a menu (or two) when I am putting two different titles together (from diff sides)???

I actually have posted a VERY SPECIFIC QUESTION about this one in a thread a day ago or so - I wonder if you would not mind checking it out - as I do not want to get too far off of this thread's subject.

My thread is in the newbie section and it is called ...

"TWO Titles/TWO disks - KEEP MENUS is it possible??" ... so far no one has helped me with it.

saugmon,

I am beginning to think it CAN'T be done - as soon as I opened the linky the first con he had was - "you cant keep the menus" WELL - THAT IS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH. I had already successfully backed both sides up using Shrink - but I was dissappointed at not being able to keep the menus.
Usually when I back my movies up, I dont care about the menus because I just use them so my originals won't get messed up - but w/ Color Purple - its just frustrating to have to get up and turn it around to watch side two.

So know when I try to watch my copy with both sides together - if I have to step away or stop in the middle of the movie - I have to keep hitting the skip button just to get through a trillion chapters *L*

Well I appreciate your help on this anyway. There has GOT to be a program that can do this still help you keep the menu - its gotta be!!
