Im using a Sony DRU-800A and Memorex DVD+R 8X DVDs, and the burn seems successful, yet it wont play in my Nova HT-DV409 player. It says loading for a long period of time, then finally it comes up and says DVD-R on the screen and thats all. Even though I'm using DVD+R. Does this mean it only takes DVD-R. I'm super new to all this, I just got my burner last Thursday. Any help would be greatly appreciated, ive made a few coasters already, and DVDs are expensive.
Thanks,
Zach

I would bet on this being the media you are using.
Check your documents for your dvd player to see what format it will play ie DVD+R DVD-R etc some dvd players can be quite picky on what they will play. DVD-R seems to be the most compatible with most dvd players.

Also check the documents for you dvd rewriter to see what media is recommended, Verbatim are excellent i can't stress enough how important media choice is.

We could also do with more info on what software you are using to backup your dvd's.

Well, its seems to play DVD-R, just i bought a spindle of 50 Memorex, and the DVDs play fine in my comp, but choppy to not at all on my DVD player. I have burn using DVD Decrypter and Nero, once on 6X, the next on Max (it was all i could select). Im assuming to reduce choppiness i should invest in good media. Such as?

Yes purchase some good quality media, Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are my favourites but there are lots of others you can try.
Try and find out whats recommended for your writer to be sure and just buy a small pack at first so you don't waste your hard earned cash.
You also really need to try and get that write speed down to 4x (or below)and see if that helps your quality of burn.
Iv'e never used Nero so i can't help you with the write speed adjustment. I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 to do most of my backups you can try a free trial here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/ theres lots of people using this sofware,it's updated often and it works treat.

Good luck
