I turned on my PS2 the other day. It won't read ANYTHING. Happened all at once with no warning. I tried to clean the disc, the laser, even tried CDs, DVDs, and audio CDs with no luck.

I have a DMS4 Pro installed, which got me to thinking. Is there any way I can run my games off a hard drive? I have a spare 60GB drive that I could use, but from what I have read, you have to boot hdloader or hdadvance to format the drive, which I can't because my laser is FUBAR. Anyone have any suggestions?..I am having withdrawals.

Well...I put the 60GB into the ps2. When I booted up, I held in the R1 button to go to the dms menu. It came right up and asked if I wanted to format the hdd. Hurray!! Now I am going to attempt to network it with my PC. If anyone has any tips, please shoot them to me. Thanks!

Best Advice I can give is to look for a program called HDL Dump GUI 2

This is designed for be a front end for Networking your PS2 and PC, however it works wonderfully if you put your PS2 HD in your PC.

Just put your PS2 HD in your PC. When you boot up windows, it will recognise your hard Drive, but it will not show up in "My Computer". Open HDLD_GUI click "Work on PC". in the next window click on the "Local" icon and select your PS2 HD. Next pop in your game into your DVD drive and hit "Start JOB". Add as many games as desired. This way is WAY faster than transferring over the network, plus it saves the pain of trying to setup the HDL Server.

That's the good thing about the DMS4 Pro with ToxicOS 0.3... it has its own HD support that doesn't require a boot disc, so you can still play games even if your laser is hosed.

What if you have a Matrix infintity chip? My laser is dead and am looking for a way to still use the system and not worry about future lasers dieing. I read somewhere that there is a memory card exploit. Does this allow you to boot without a working laser?
