Hi

I have not got a clue when it comes to doing this. I have tons of videos made over the years of my wedding and my kids growing up and I would like to put these onto dvd.

How do I physically record video to my PC? I have just got a new PC with XP and included software etc. Do I connect a video player to my pc?

Well your PC Must First have a capture Device of some sort unless your Video is Shot on a DV Camcorder in which case you need a Firewire Card to Transfer the Video from the DV Camcorder to your PC.....

If you want to Capture Video from a VCR you will need a Capture device Installed in your PC and you will need Capture Software and Possibly editing software and DVD authoring Software but first you will need a Capture device which does not generally come with a new PC......

I'm moving this to the Analog Capture forum since that's where you need to start.

You need to use some kind of analog capture device connected to a VCR to get the video and audio into the computer. You can use an internal PCI card or an external device. Once you get it to your computer there's usually an additional step of encoding to MPEG-2 so it's DVD compliant. Finally you'll need to author to create DVD files.

I'm sure others here will have more specific recommendations regarding the capture process.

Edit: You're too fast for me Minion ;)

Where is this Analog Capture Forum? I have looked up and down the list and can't find it. Do I need better pair of glasses?

This thread was in the DVD authoring forum and I moved it here since most of what you need to know is about capturing the video, which is a separate process from authoring the DVD.

No problem ;) Just follow Minion's advice and you should be fine. He's the expert on capturing.
