Only things I know about my modchip are:
I can enable ps1 mode by holding down the reset button for a few secs.
It seems like the only way I can disable the chip is to hold down the reset button the whole time... If the reset button goes back to normal position, loading from the disc takes 10 times longer.
Also, I can watch DVD movies simply by pressing reset once.
Anyone know what my chip is? and how to disable it other than holding the reset button? I placed something in front of the ps2 to keep the reset button held down, but it seems like the reset button is starting to loosen up because of that.... Anyone have any suggestions? I really want to play my online games Y__________Y
I was thinking it was the messiah, but after doing the hold reset till clouds showed up thingie, I get DRE from ps2 discs and it loads up ps1 discs instead....
do you need to have the media inside the drive before pressing the reset button for it to load?
probably you have a Magic III or V chip, you need to hold the reset button until the eject light appears for PS1/DVD movies, press the reset once for PS2 games, nothing more than this.
I don't think there is a way to disable this chip, but i also don't think you need to disble it to play online!! search the forum for online gaming.
I dont think the media needs to be inside for the game to load. I held down reset till the blue clouds showed up, pressed eject, placed the disc in (a backup ps1 disc that is, I still get disc read errors or the red screen when putting in ps2 games), went to browser, and i see the disc.
Without disabling the chip, I get the -402 DNAS error when trying to play online even though Im using an original disc. And according to some websites, magic 3 and V can be disabled by holding down the reset button...
Im sooo tempted to open up my ps2 Y________Y
But Im too scared that I might damage it.. like alot of people who accidentally removes the wire that connects to the reset button +___+
EDIT: OMG
I dont know what I did but i was able to disable it O_O
it suddenly loaded up my nba 2k6 :O
well, if you're not into very tiny screws and cables I wouldn't recommend you opening it up, anyway, you shouldn't have any problems with the wire that connects to the reset button, you can unplug it and plug it again as many times as you wish as long as you do it properly, that is, pulling and pushing it in the hard blue part of the cable where it connects to the ps2 and reset button.
you have a lot of pictures on the net on how to dismantle it.
Anyway, I had a Magic III for almost a year, at the begining it was a bit hard to use, you should always use good DVD-R media or most of the times it won't boot, try booting a PS2 game like this:
-turn on PS2 with the eject button
-insert the PS2 DVD-R media
-press reset button for a few seconds (the tray will close and PS2 should go back to stand-by, red reset button)
-click once on the reset button
Thanks for your help.
I finally figured out a way to play online games.
All I need to do is insert a dummy disc, press reset, press eject when the playstation logo is disappearing, insert game disc, go to browser and load it there. :D
