I downloaded a .mds image file of FFVII and I burn it using alcohol 120% and everything was ok. But when I tried to play it on my PS2, it just doesn't boot. My set was modded with dms3 chip and I tried it with other PS1 games and it works. But when I tried playing the FFVII using emulators, it works. Please tell me whats wrong if u have any clue. Thanks

The disc doesn't even load at all. It gets to the browser screen immediately. Regarding playing on PC, I used the same cd which I burned.

Do you have a DMS 3 Pro or Lite? You need to flash it with the appropriate Toxic system. Here is the correct burning method for Alcohol %120: I use Alcohol %120 to back up my PSX games. I set the data type to customize, the read speed to 1x and the write speed to 4x (the lowest my writer supports) and I check read subchannel data from current disc, ignore read errors and fast skip error blocks (not every writer supports this function) and click next. This will create an mdf an mds file (image files created with Alcohol or DVD encrypter). To burn the image you need set to the data type to playstation, the write speed low (no faster than 4x) and the write method to DA0/SAO. This method worked for me about %90 of the time.

I didnt know about the Toxic System you mentioned. I tried updating my chip once and its a bad experience as it causes the entire chip to shut down. I will try again following ur procedure. Thanks

Yeah I gotta admit I am doing this on the fly. You can flash the DMS 3 with Toxic OS or bios (not sure which) found here: http://www.dms3.com/cgi-bin/dms3/site.pl?page=downloads Now I imagine you flash it the same way as the DMS 4. DMS3.com isn't real useful, basically the forums are devoted to the DMS 4. To flash the DMS 4: http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4604 Sorry I can't get better info. I'll keep looking for stuff related to the DMS 3. The DMS 4 Pro needed to be flashed with Toxic OS and the DMS 4 Lite needed to be flashed with Toxic Bios. I assume the same holds true for the DMS 3. I hate giving advise based on assumptions, but it's the best I can do for now. Good Luck. Okay I found the CD flash method for the DMS 3: http://www.dms3.com/cgi-bin/dms3/site.pl?page=specifications

I am very grateful to your (Tokijin)help along the way although I still can't get it right. I have checked that if I set the datatype to Playstation, the write method is automatically changed to RAW DAO unless I changed the datatype to Customize. According to my friend, I do not need to upgrade my chip unless I am using a non PS2 hdd. However, I tried upgrading the chip and still, the backup doesn't load. I got DISK READ ERROR when I attempt to browse. And that's the first time I encounter this kinda stuff.

Try changing the write method to DAO/SAO. You should be able to change this in FILE-->OPTIONS-->DATA TYPE SETTING-->RECORDING OPTIONS-->PLAYSTATION-->ORDERERD LIST OF METHODS-->Click on DAO/SAO and then click on the up arrow until it's the first item on the list and click OK. Now when you set the datatype to Playstation the write method should be DAO/SAO. As far as not needing the latest firmware upgrade with the DMS 3, your friend may be correct. My knowledge of the DMS 3 is very limited. I am a lot more familiar with the DMS 4. Hope this helps, and keep me posted on your progress.

Once again, it doesn't work. The DISK READ ERROR occurs again. I had tried running the same disc on a DMS3 Plus set and a Matrix Infinity Set. Both display the same errors. I will try using a CD-R instead of a CD-RW. I will keep you updated on the progress.

Yeah that's definitely the problem. CD-RW's and DVD-RW's are very hard on the PS2 laser and it doesn't read them well, if at all. I shoulda asked sooner if you were using CD-RW's or CD-R's. That also explains why the emulator's would boot it and your PS2 wouldn't. Burn it to a CD-R and it should work fine. I know FF7 works on a modded PS2, cuz I backed up my friend's and it runs fine.
