Hello,
Just purchased my flip top for my v.7 ps2 and when I go to boot up any disk I get nothing. I can see the laser trying to quickly read the disk and then I don't hear the drive boot up. Is the laser not adjusted properly? I purchased the top and bottom from clearbox and the install was pretty easy. I must be missing something since the ps2 will boot up into the main page but the disk doesn't spool.

Am I close to getting it to work here or did I just trash my ps2.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah did you install it properly? http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop/page1.cfm I have a v.4 flip top which uses the same lid as a v.7. Make sure that it's on tight enough. Try gently pushing down on the flip top a little and see it that gets games to boot. If so reinstall it and see if that helps. You may wanna also check the eject ribbon and make sure it isn't pinched.

I'll give the top alittle pressure to see if it grabs the disk but the eject ribion seems ok and not pinched.

Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Bill

Usually this is because the top isn't on tight enough. Check the screws on the bottom to make sure they're in tight. Short of that maybe you received a defective flip top. Not likely usually this is because the lid isn't fastened securely and the PS2 still thinks the lid isn't closed. Post a link to the model you ordered. I don't know about this clearbox and I would guess this is possibly a problem associated with the bottom. If all else fails clean the laser with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol.

I'll give that a try. On further inspection I saw that the eject ribion has some possible damage. But for fun I tried to use the eject button and that acutally worked, and the unit restarts ok with the restart button. So would the ribon be faulty if those worked or not? I'll try to clean the laser as well tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Bill

I'm not real familliar with the Clear top or "Ghost Case" as it's referred to. But the principal isn't much different than a flip top. Try using the disc tray to boot up games. If that doesn't work. You may want to put it back in into the original case and see if it boots that way. At least this would let you know if it's the laser or the ghost case.

Ok I fixed problem a: disks won't boot. Acutally I realized that the door wasn't fully exteding from the case. Must of gotten jammed up, so I removed the 2 small screws and alligned the opening mechanizsm to work correctly.

I'll post my other problems in a newer thread.
Thanks again for all your help,
A.W.
