I have a question about why my copying takes twice as long as it use to. I recently bought some Taiyo Yuden Silver DVD02X0098 (8x+R), when I burn using CloneDVD from the origanal, they take the same amount of time as my old 4x Ridata's did. But when I copy on the fly, they take twice as long. I have always used Ridata 4x in the past and burning on the fly was always 20 minutes, now it takes 40 minutes. I have tried Sonic, Nero, and CloneCD, they all take the same amount of time, but when I put a 4x Ridata back in, it is back to 20 minutes. I have it set on max speed as well. Any suggestions or is this the way it will always be?

I checked it out, it is set on DMA if avalible. I uninstalled and restarted the computer, same thing, sloooow burns with the TY's and fast with the Ridata's. Could it be the burner is not as happy with the TY's as it is with the Ridata's?

danadena,

What kind of burner do you have? Is your burner's firmware up-to-date? If not, then go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and have a look around and download it to run to update the firmware.

I have been kicking around getting a NEC 3540a, Dual Layer burner. Any input on how this one works with Taiyo Yuden +R discs? Has anybody made a copy of a copy, if so, how fast does it burn? A buddy of mine has a NEC 3520a, he said the TY's tripled his burn time. Still under 20 minutes for him, which is better then my 45 to 1 hour. Any input would be helpful.

Hi there,

I use Taiyo Yuden 4x TYG01 and even if I burn them at 4x, I only get an average of 2.5x or 3.0x because my PC is real busy, I have lots of crap running in the background.

Yes my copies are good (I use Taiyo Yuden) but I can't feed the burner fast enought to keep a constent x4.0 burn.

Is this the case here ?
You have lots and lots of background tasks running ?

Even if you ask to burn at 16x, if your PC can't feed the burner fast enought, speed WILL slow down a lot !

This is why even on TYG01, I rather burn at x2.0 and walk away than having to stop all my other tools running in the background everytime I want to burn a DVD !

My 2 cents...

Thanks for the input. I don't have anything running except the burning program. It just baffles me why the Ridata's burn faster then the TY's.
Thanks again for the feed back, anything else would be very helpful.
