I want to shrink a dvd-9 to fit onto a dvd-5. After opening the disc trying to do a full disc backup the bar at the top is part green and part red. I read the guide and says it should not be in the red. When i back it up it still does not shrink it enough to fit onto a dvd-5.

I have removed the unwanted subtitle and audio tracks and the bar is still red.

Can anyoone help please?

You did not add much detail but - did you try JUST DOING THE MOVIE ?

Go into re-author to do that

Im actually trying to backup an episodic dvd so require all the menus.

The disc is actually 7.36GB on d DVD9. When dvdshrink opens the disc and does a quick analysis and gets to the next screen, At the top there is a green/red bar as in the guide here.....

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shr...

In mine it is green up to 4,464GB and then red after that upto 5,875GB.

Because of this I am unable to shrink it to fit onto a DVD-5, so would like to know how to do sp please.

An episodic disc doesn't require menu's...it's nice to have but you don't have to. Start up DVD Shrink/open disc(the one you're backing up)/wait/Reauthor...Then drag the main movie titles from the right side to the left and backup. No menus needed...when one episode stops the next will begin.

Well you could shrink it 2x if you still want the menus. Loss of quality - some - but depends on what you can live with - tv screen size etc. On the 1st pass set your burning target to hard disc then open that file and reshrink.

Usually when I back up episodic discs, I'll lower the compression all the way down for the menus and/or bonus material or I'll just get rid of the bonus material altogether, leaving the compression set at automatic for the actual episodes. I have never had a problem by doing this.

as mentioned above you can put it thru DVD Shrink twice and it will work. I had to do that with a few titles. This way it will keep all your menus.

Thanks for the help guys!

I shrinked it once and it got down to 5.875GB from 7.36GB. But the second time I shrinked it it got down from 4.764GB which still isnt enough to fit onto a DVD-5. Is there a way to do this without having to shrink it at least 3 times? I have tried reauthor mode and still does not compress it enough.

It is set to automatic. I have set it to DVD-5 in preferences also. The compression settings is 73.3% and I cant change it and the slider next to it is all the way to left.

Any ideas???

Siffy you don't need the menus the DVD will just automatically play all the episodes remove the menus and you will fit it on the disc trust us. After you do go main movie only you will love it and realize you don't need the menus and when you want to see deleted scenes and all that just put your original in for that.

Are you deleting your subtitles and all audio except AC3 5.1?

how bout the audio? You may have to settle on shrinking a 3rd time.

What title are trying to burn?
