Hello again.
Yesterday I receieved my new ps2 case. I installed it without a problem. I went to play it and it dose let the ps2 boot up and then start to play the game/disk.

About 1 min after booting up the game, I begin to hear noises coming from the flip top cover like the laser is having problems reading the disk. Clicks, buzzes and then the ps2 stops trying to load the disk and I get a disk error message. I then removed the new clearbox cover and reinstalled my old cover and it works fine. I got the box from Clearxbox.com and I have emailed them. Ive got the playstation v.7 verson

Any ideas. I hope I didn't get a deffective one or is there something else that I can try to fix?

Thanks,
A.W.

umm anyone? I tried some other games and dvd's and it seems if you can get past the introduction of the game or dvd it will work ok but the first few minutes it starts to make some noise inside the fliptop and then it stops loading the game or dvd.

Hope someone can help?

Yeah well 86ing the ghost case is a good start. Did you install the flip top properly? If you ordered the correct flip you should be okay. http://www.gocybershop.ca/customer/product.php?productid=153&cat=... That is the correct one for v.4-7. In fact that is the site I ordered from. So again is it on securely? Does it do this with originals or backups?

It does this with the origionals. I haven't ventured into the backup as of yet. The case is as tight as I can get it before that terrible "crack" noise that I'm trying to avoid. It almost sound like the drive, its out of ballance. When it stated to make the noise I pushed onto the top of the fliptop and it stopped the noise but it still started to make that laser searching sound. I'm wondering if the fliptop is just off slightly making the disk wobble? I'll try again tomorrow trying the old case vs the new case. If the old case works fine I would have to suspect that the new one could be bad..... at least this is my theory.

Thanks for responding,
A.W.

Yeah lemme know how that goes. I don't think you recieved two defective cases in a row. Try cleaning your laser. It's more likely to be something simple than a hardware issue. I.E. Your laser lens is dirty or scracthed versus TWO defective flip tops in a row. I don't think you installed both of them incorrectly either. Clean the laser with a Q-tip and rubbing Alcohol. I've done this several times on my v.4 PS2, with good results.

Update,
I cleaned up the laser, greased the bars and cleaned up the worm gear. I also just took off the flip top and tried to boot up the game with the old square black laser cover (the one with the 4 small screws with the laser warning) and all the games, dvd's and cd's worked fine. I only have 1 ghost case and I have contacted clearxbox about the problem. I'm glad I didn't go out and drop some serious $$ to see about the fix. The only thing I can guess is that somehow that the flip top is causing a problem. Maybe the top isn't flush or something must be off but alittle. I'll let you know what I find out from clearxbox.

Thanks,

It might seem weird but try putting some weight on the flip top after you've swap discs, pressing down right at the centre of the lid seems to work with mine.

I had the same problem with a flip top of mine
My problem was that when i put the screws back in the bottom
of the case it made the flip top too tight. I had to put them in very loosely or just leave them out alltogether to get it to work
i decided to just leave them out since i never move it and have not
had a problem since then.
I have also heard what was mentioned above about some people needing
to put a small amount of weight on the flip top to get theirs
to work right, but that would be the opposite of me. It would be
for a case that is too loose and is not pressing hard enough
on the disc.

I'll give the not screwing the screws a try tomorrow since I'm going to send it back anyways. I tried the use some added weight while the game was booting and still the same problem. Atleast I feel good on the troubleshooting side of things, and the adjusting the laser isn't that hard to do, but its time consuming.

The only thing I can figure out is that the flip top has a different angle that holds the disk onto the drive that is causing this really funky noise and the non booting issue. Because when I switch back to the origional cover it boots up fine with all games, dvd, cd's ectand no noise. I'm just alittle bummed that I've got to pay some cash to get a case that might or might not work. I'm hoping that I'll get the "it will work" case this time.

Thanks again for all of your help and suggestions. I'll post an update when I get the replacement case in the mail in the next few days.
