I have just bought a modbo v2 for my ver. 6, NTSC ps2. I installed it just fine but it seems it does not work. It is almost as if I never even installed it. I think it is sort of working because my ps2 still works, and it takes 2 seconds longer than usual to boot. I have tried to play backup dvds(pal versions) but none are booting even though it says it can play region free movies.I also tried holding down start and other buttons but I get no on-screen messages. I really wanted to use it for a backup copy of hd loader that I have but it will not boot that either. Is there some way of magically turning it on?

Can somebody help me so that I will not have to re-open my ps2(it was a huge pain first time around!)?

Yeah I know what the problem with your Modbo is: IT's a MODBO lol. These chips are problematic and known to have all sorts of issues. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/238938 Cheap modchips are a hassle. If you need a cheap one that works well try: http://www.covetime.com/modshop/product_info.php?products_id=79 Does it boot your PS2 originals? Are you using it correctly?

yeah it boots my originals just fine, and it works like it did originally accept that it takes just a tad longer than usual to boot to the menu. I believe it is working just by the fact that my ps2 is working but something on it is wrong. Should I try to disconnect the 3v wire? Some people said that they have fixed the problem by doing that. Also is the fact that when I hold down start after I turn on the PS2 an automatic indication that my chip isn't working? My stepdad checked all the connections with a multimeter thing and they all worked o.k. Could it be that the burnt copy of hd loader I have is bad and will not boot? I burned the hd loader (cd disk) to a regular cd and it would not boot. Should I try to burn the DVD hd loader disk? I have tried playing burned pal versions of Kill Bill vol.1 and a few others but it just says "TV system does not match". I have not actually tried to play any burned games yet because I just want to play them from the Hard Drive.

All I want to do is play initial d!!!

Okay I just tried to play a burned copy of Street Fighter EX3, and I can now certainly say that my chip does not work. This really frustrates me. I don't feel like opening my PS2 up again, but I might have to. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem??

Whoa there slow your roll. First off I would never offer soldering advice to anyone. I can barely spell sodder <-- see. I DON'T recommend opening it back up and fiddling with the chip. Modbo's are cheap POS chips, but I'm not certain that's the problem. 90% of the time when people blame the modchips it's the burning of their backup's that is in fact wrong. Try burning at 1 or 2x with DVD Decrypter. It is freeware which can be found here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_... Instructions can be found here: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html Also' here's a tutorial for HD loader: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#hd%20loader Take a deep breath man the answer isn't complex and you'll get it working.
