I am having a problem getting some copies of dvd's to play in my dvd player and i have tried everything i can think of that is why i am posting this.

I am trying to copy all of the six feet under dvd's. I copied season 1 successfully. I didn't even have a problem with the disk 3 everyone else did. I got disk 1 and 2 of season 2 copied fine, but 3, 4, & 5 i have copied numerous times now and nothing will read. I know it is not the media because i have copied other movies on the dvd's and they worked fine in the dvd player.

When i load the disk in the dvd player it takes a long time to load and then it says "playback feature unavaiable".

I have downloaded dvdxcopy, dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, and anydvd.
I have tried multiple varients of these programs so i will try to remember some of them.

1. dvd shrink alone
2. dvd decrypter to iso, iso mounted on virtual drive, dvd shrink.
3. dvd shrink with anydvd in background

I don't understand how disk 3, 4, 5 have problems and 1 & 2 didn't you wouldn't think they would have a different set of protection in one season of dvds.

Its important that i copy all of these dvds and i need to know how to get them burned so they work in my dvd player.

Someone help please asap.

At what Mode (i.e. ISO, Read R or Mode, File F) did you ripped/decrypted with DVD Decrypter? I recommend using the Mode, File F - because it can rip and decrypt the encrypted better, not only that but it will have more chances of getting a successfully ripped into your hard drive.

Do you have the latest (last version) from DVD Decrypter? What kind of blank media are you using (please provide the media codes - if you can)? How fast did you burned your backups? Does the original discs of "6 Feet Under" has some kind of scratches in any form/way?

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Yes what Media are you using? also What speed are you burning at? I would recommend burning at either 2.4X or 4X if you are trying to burn at 8X 12X or 16X. id also suggest cleaning the discs to be copied first.

If media is good quality and the SFU discs are clean id suggest loading up Nero 6 and copying directly from disc to blank.

I tried all 3 modes, file mode however i couldn't figure out how to burn after i shrank it in DVD Shrink without a source. that is why i did it again in an iso and mounted it on a virtual drive.

I will have to check if i have the newest version that i am unsure of.

The media i am using to burn on is a spindle of 50 maxwell dvd+r's, 8x capable, but i've only burned at 2.4x.

Also the six feet under disks don't have any scratches or anything like that. Sometimes they have had smudges but i cleaned those off before i started copying them.

Tell me how to find the media codes and i will post them.

One way to tell the media codes of discs is to download dvd identifier (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... and use it to 'identify' discs, pasting the results here

@emmie383

If you're ripping a PS2 games or ripping a DVD9 into a DVD+R DL blank, then I recommend using Mode, ISO, Read R (which is a 1:1 copy). However, on this case, I highly recommend using the "Mode, File F" to rip/decrypt to your hard drive - it's more safer and more likely to have a successfully ripped/decrypted the encrypted protection codes. Please check the following "settings" on your DVD Decrypter:

at CSS
[tick or check] on Brute Force --> I/O key exchange
On Failure: use key from another file: Yes?

at I/O
[tick or check] on Ignore read errors

at General
[tick or check] on Remove Macrovision Protection
at Removal Method: Aggressive

at "ISO Read Mode" and "File Mode"
[tick or check] on all of the Remove Protections

((Here is a simple steps to back up a 7GB ? 9GB dvd movie on a single layer 4.7GB (DVD5) disc using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink or Nero. Assuming you already have all of the programs ready to do some burning.))

** open up your ?c: drive? or ?hard drive?, go to FILE, NEW, Folder, name it ?NEW_BACKUPMOVIE,? hit [Enter] to save it, and another one like ?FINAL_SHRINKMOVIE? or anything you want, hit [Enter] to save it, then EXIT.
** now go inside the 2 folders ?NEW_BACKUPMOVIE? and ?FINAL_SHRINKMOVIE,? go to FILE, New, Folder and name it VIDEO_TS <--- Yes? exactly like this under each folder, and hit [Enter] to save it. Now closed that.

((Now, before you start, let?s make sure you have some high quality media on hand ready in order to proceed. Please use high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden (genuine Yuden can be the Fuji & Sony 8X DVD+R ?Made In Japan?), Maxell ?Made In Japan,? and Verbatim.))

** put blank dvd inside your DVD burner (or put original in your DVD burner if you don?t have a dvd rom drive.)
** put original dvd in dvd rom, or DVD burner (if you only have a burner)

((NOTE: in prior to ?decrypt or rip? the original movie, take a few seconds to check the few following settings on DVD Decrypter.))
** open up DVD Decrypter, go to Tools, and Settings
** at General ?Removal Method? arrow down to ?Aggressive?
** at I/O check ?Ignore Read Errors?
** at CSS check ?Brute Force  I/O key exchange, On Failure: use key from another file [YES]
** at ISO Write Mode, check ?Enable BURN-Proof
** at "ISO Read Mode" and "File Mode"
[tick or check] on all of the Remove Protections

((Since you have DVD Decrypter open already, now let?s get going with the fun part))

** now go to MODE, File F
** choose your ?SOURCE? <-- your DVD-Rom drive or dvd burner where the Original movie is located.
** choose your ?Destination? <-- browse to your ?hard drive? with your newly created folder earlier; example: NEW_BACKUPMOVIE, then VIDEO_TS, click on OK.
** now click on ?DECRYPT,? wait until it's completed, and closed DVD Decrypter (this takes about 15 - 20 mins depending on your computer specs).

** now open up DVD Shrink, then ?Open Files?, and browse to your (NEW_BACKUPMOVIE), then "VIDEO_TS" folder that you created/ripped (with DVD Decrypter) earlier and click ?OK? to open it.
** DVD Shrink should do a quick Analysis now, wait until it's completed (it?s only 1 - 2 minutes).

** NOTE: if you want super quality and just the main movie only without the Extras, Subtitles and Menu, then you can click on "Re-author" mode, click on "main title 1" and drag it to drop under the "DVD Structure" on the left hand panel, then click on BACKUP, and OK.
** NOTE: if you want to do a ?CUSTOM? on a DVD-R/+R disc, set the CUSTOM to ?4300MB? or ?4360MB?, (to do this, go to EDIT, PREFERENCES, and set the MB size, then hit ?OK? when you?re done. (NOTE: if you want to Burn with Nero, then at ?File/IO?, [check] ?Enable Burning with Nero?)

** NOTE: if you want a "Full Disc Backup" with better quality, then you should set the "Quality Settings" to ?Maximum Sharpness? or to your desire (to do this, click on ?BACKUP,? Quality Settings, and click on ?Compress Video with High Quality,? and arrow down to ?Maximum Sharpness,? then OK.

** NOTE: on ?Burn Settings? you can set the ?Burn Speeds? and ?Book Type to DVD-ROM? if only you?re going to burn with Nero using a DVD+R disc (this is one of the best and safest way to go, I highly recommend.)

** now click on ?Target Device?, on select backup target: you can select to burn with either "Nero" or "DVD Decrypter" (create ISO Image File and Burn with DVD Decrypter)<--- your choice of burning and click on OK
** NOTE: do this only if you?re burning with Nero: on ?Select Folder for Temporary Files:? browse to your ?FINAL_SHRINKMOVIE? then ?VIDEO_TS? and click on OK <--(this will store the already shrink/compressed 4.3GB movie files, so you can burn again later without having to shrink or encode again.)

** now hit ?OK?, sit back, relax, go smoke, drink, or watch a movie on your TV, DVD Shrink will do the encoding, wait until it's completed (this takes anywhere from 15 - 30 mins depending on your computer specs and how big is the original movie)
** once DVD Shrink is done, it should automatically back up with either Nero or DVD Decrypter (this is your setting earlier on the backup Target Device.)
** that's it.... easy as sipping on a Corona, now wait for Nero or DVD Decrypter to finish the backup process and you're done (this takes about 7 - 10 mins depending on your computer specs.)

** once you have a successfully backed up, now you can go to your NEW_MOVIEBACKUP, VIDEO_TS folder and delete all of those files, since you won?t need them anymore.

Hope this help you a little. Have fun burning!!!

I will try your guide and see what happens, those settings might help.
If not another coaster.

How do you get those options, i've only ever used DVD Shrink to burn it or dvdxcopy. The icon does look like a Nero icon however, but i never see the option to use DVD Decrypter, do you have to have it open?

You're welcome, and come back anytime when you have other issues. Now that you've learned how to successfully backed up, please keep using the good media that you're using now (aka Maxell "Made In Japan") or other high quality media are Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Ritek. Yuden media is also the FUJI & SONY 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan."

Keep in mind to always burn at 4X, this is the best and most recommendation speeds so far. Good luck and have fun burning..!!
