Hello, I have searched the form and have not found a thread of this mature before. If I have missed it, please let me know!

A bit of history

Im fairly new to dvix/xvid to dvd conversion but i got it down from vso -> dvd shirnk -> dvd decypter.

Assumption

Im assuming that the fact that a movie has been compressed from ie 4g to 1g (or less in a dviX format) that the quality suffers(correct me if im off on that).

Question

Regardless, after converting the files to VOB (and company) the VIDEO_TS is still quite smaller than let's say when I back up my own personally owned copies of dvd's (obviously this has to do with the size of the dvix compressed file before conversion).

Finally, when watching on my stand alone player, this dviX -> dvd "rip" seem to look a bit off.

Is there a way to get better quality "rips" ie as I do when I backup my personally owned copies?

Thanks

this has been covered and the guides on this site suggest using basically the default setup that comes with the program, I have experienced much the same as you and not on all files but part of your assumption is correct as far as from one file type to another quality being off or sync off, but try this I set it to min-4mbs and max-0 i also set the dvd size to 3.40gb this helped some but other that that use Nero Vision Express or some other similar program. I have had very good luck with Nero and only started using it this month.

Sorry, "I set it to min-4mbs and max-0 i also set the dvd size to 3.40gb " on which program are you doing this?

I was refering to the program xvid/dvix (using VSO) -> VOB files, which in turn allows me to burn it on to a dvd.

It is at this point that quality loss occurs

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Actually, I have another question - related in a sense

After I convert my AVI files to VOB, (they are too big to fit on cd's) can I simply slap both of them on a dvd and they will play one after the other?

Thanks

my suggestion was for vso DivX to dvd ......if VOB files are to big you can shrink them with DVD Shrink before burning

let me add something here you can convert more than one file in DivX to dvd most of the time I can get 2.5hrs on to a disc using this program sometimes it will even hold 3hrs and still play smoothly so keep that in mind two movie files converted and burned at same time ok

Hey thanks elliot, I really appretiate your feedback.

1 - Dvd shirnk, got that! thanks

2 - Where are the options in VSO??

3 - So in the case that I have 2 files (let's say cd1 and cd2 that I have converted to VOB). If I chose to put them on the same disk (ie a DVD) the files will play correctly? IE cd1 and when it's done automatically cd2? (cd1 and cd2 have been combined and placed onto 1 dvd). What I'm after is the parallel concept that when I play my backed up DVD's I pop it in and the movie plays (this was 1 main movie in dvd shrink).

Actually, this just dawned on me, b/c I have two separate parts which contain many VOB files can I simply clump then together and they play as one continues movie? or as I asked in question 3 if combined one one dvd, 1 plays followed by 2

Hope this is not confusing, if it is please let me know.

Thanks!

Sorry!

I guess I should research before posting

1 - I learned how to merge

2 - Where are the options in VSO?

3 - Can you really tell a diffrence in quality after converting the AVI files to VOB via VSO? Or is it just myself noticing a diffrence when viewing on computer v/s flatscreen.

Thanks!

Thanks!
