I would appreciate if somebody can answer the question. I know it does support dvd+r but i dont know if it supports dvd-r.

Yes , the PS2 does play DVD-R just fine !:c)

It does, but it has more problems with cheap DVD-R media than cheap DVD+R media.

Make sure you always buy the best media. I use Taiyo Yuden DVD+R, but Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media is just as good. Also Verbatim is good.
