Ok so heres the deal. I am backing up my dvds with dvd shrink alone. Ive now realized the 3 dvds Ive backed up all skip alot. Is it the problem Im using dvd shrink alone? I know a HUGE problem is the dvds Im using (memorex +r) but will that make that mess up the back up to the point where it skips probably every few minutes. Somtimes just pauses, sometimes skip to a new section. I did just order the tayo yaden disks but I was just messing around with shrink with my crappy dvds. Should I be using also different programs with shrink? I have Nero and the decrypter. Should I decrept all my dvds before I put them through shrink? Thanks for any help..

How fast are you burning? If you burn at fast speeds, you'll definately get errors on the disc even though the disc may have appeared to be successfully burned. I recommend burning at 4x and no higher.

bp11139,
Welcome to the forum. It would not hurt if you got into the habit of ripping the Movie to the HD first. You can use DVDDecrypter or DVDDFAB Decrypter.

The Blank disks are important in getting a good burn so use the Memorex disks as date storage devices or do movies on them and give them to your enemies as gifts. LOL The skipping though is caused by the blank media you used though. The Taiyo Yudens will be fine.

Guides for you to use: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

Pick the way you would like to do the movie and then click on it and there is the guide w/ pictures so you do not get lost

DVDDecrypter: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_...

DVDFAB Decrypter: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvdf...

Car Mike,

thanks for the info. So the tony yayo disks should help with the skipping? Also you say use the decrypter with all the dvds? So what is the combo you use? Decrypter and shrink? or more programs also? thanks..

bp11139,
I can either use DVDDecrypter or DVDFAB Decrypter to rip to HD or AnyDVD along w/ Shrink to do a movie.

I prefer to use DVDDecrypter but it has not been updated in about 4 months due to legal problems. So I also use AnyDVD along w/ DVDDecrypter to rip the disk to HD. I prefer to work off of my HD but you do not have to. You will need AnyDVD( free 21 day trial version is available) Go Here:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anyd...

This is what I do
Open DVDDecrypter. Go to Tools>settings> I/O > Interface. Now make sure ElbyCDIO- Elaborate Bytes has a check mark by it. Now make sure the little fox in the tray on the lower right is now red and now use DVDDecrypter as you normally would.

Guides you can use:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

I normally use Shrink until the compression get to 20% then I use DVDRebuilder but I want you to use Shrink for a while and have no coasters for atleast 6 months before you try DVDRB

You can use Shrink to compress and DVDDecrypter to burn the .iso
You can use Shrink to compress and then Nero to burn.
You can rip the DVD and then use Nero's Recode 2 to " Make a Movie"

Pick you poison and just experiment a little

So you think I would be ok to use just decrypter to rip it to my hardrive. Then Use shrink to shrink it and burn it? Or just use shrink to shrink it then use AnyDVD to burn it?

You've got Nero, you've got dvd shrink: That's my main combo for backing up dvds. You set Nero to autoburn with DVD Shrink. Very easy once you get all the settings down..This combo does over 90% of my backups. Most of the others,I use AnyDVD to help DVD Shrink out.

Also give DVD Decrypter a try.A more powerful ripper and has a burn engine. You have file mode and ISO mode.File mode is for the larger DVD-9 movies for when you have to compress them for a blank DVD-5.You rip in file mode, then open up DVD Shrink to pull out the ISO and resume DVD Shrink in your normal process.
The ISO mode will be for non compressed movies.Very effective and quicker on the 1:1 copy ratio for DVD-5-dvd-5 or DVD-9 to DVD-9.
Those larger movies take longer to backup using file mode,so I skip that step and rip with DVD Shrink.

Dvdfab decrypter is also a very nice free ripper.

There's a lot of different combinations to rip and burn using those programs I listed. You'll want to find the right combo that you feel comfortable with.

Once you get the taiyo yudens, your playback should be considerably a lot better.

Rip it to HD using DVDDecrypter and AnyDVD using the method I use and then use Shrink to compress it and after that either Nero or DVDDecrypter can burn the files. Nero will automatically burn the video files and DVDDecrypter will burn the image files that are created using Shrink.
AnyDVD is not a burning program. It is a device driven ripper that works in the background so you can use DVD Shrink and not have any problems w/ encryption. I just like to rip the files to my HD.

So Use DVDDecrypter/AnyDVD combo to rip to HD
Then use Shrink to compress
Now Shrink will use DVDDecrypter or Nero to burn the compilation

ok so my Nero demo is up. Should I purchase Nero or what? I am currently in the process of backing up my dvds with the decrypter, then saving the folders to a data disc an once I get the tony yayo discs then im going to burn them. Soooo, i have the first step down, decrypting them and also shrinking them. Now I just need to use the burning process. Is it ok to use the burning step with Shrink? Or should I use a different dvd burning program (anydvd)? thanks.

IF You are new forget DVD Decrypter or Smart Ripper have your self a 6 or upper version of Roxio, and Install DVDRegion Free, and once you have these 2 software Use ROXIO DISC COPIER and you will live in peace, it will automatically Transcode even a 10GB dvd into 4.7 GB, skipping all copy right errors.

Further more it also gives you an Option if you click the option button on the Disc Copier window to skip Menues and Extras and just copy the actual movie, so that your DVD movies will be as good as possible.

Hope I am not doing any thing illegal here coz I am posting some already posted links that i got by using search engines:

Cheers and Enjoy.

Once Again ROXIO IS THE BEST, but Roxio should do something about piracy......, to keep up it sales, Don't worry Roxio I have always had a lic copy of yours, and will Upgrade to 8 soon.

ok so my Nero demo is up.
I've got a buddy who downloaded the free 30 day trial 6 months ago and it was still burning his dvds, until a reformat.I had an extra Nero 6.3 oem disc laying around and he's back burning up a storm.

Roxio: Very rarely referred around here. Roxio and Nero have extra packets in them that may clash.Nero has INCD,and Roxio has drag to disc. Nero INCD is usually not recommended to download. When issues arrise with both programs: If you have Nero, and you want roxio, use the Nero cleantool6.If you have roxio and want to use Nero, use the roxizapper.

Anydvd is only a background ripper,no burn engine that I know of.It should also pull off encryptions for roxio, dvd decrypter/dvdfab decrypter express/sonic,Nero,and most other programs.

Try keeping the same setup,Nero should be able to burn for you even though it expired.I've heard many other members also being able to keep burning with it after the expiration.

OK so remember how I was bitching about the dvds I burned were skipping really bad in my dvd player. Well I hooked up my computer to my tv and I tried using the dvd player in my computer with the dvds I burnt. The dvds were flawless in my dvd player, looked perfect, even with the crappy memorex dvds. Why is this? I have a few month old onkyo 6 disc cd player. Could this be the problem?

I heard the two are a good combo, and when I get my new Benq dvd writable drive (ordered a few days ago) and the tony yayo disks I should be ok with this.....?RIght??? lol... oh man please someone just tell me YES for a piece of mind. haha =)

bp11139,
You are doing fine using Shrink and Nero. The guy w/ Roxio was posting a warez site and that is against rules. Roxio is OK IF you take out the Drag to Disk. The same w/ Nero in that you do not install INCD. Nero is a better program as most of the programs use Nero to burn automatically. If Roxio had been that good then the programs would have used Roxio but they did not.

The problem w/ the player is " that might be the problem" Have you cleaned the lens? That might help but before you throw it away wait for the Taiyo Yudens to arrive and then try 1 DVD w/ them and see what happens
So the overall answer is do not worry you have the better disks coming in.

You might want to D/L DVDinfoPro ( free and you can Google for it). After I burn a DVD I always run the DVD and do a CRC test to see if there were any errors on the DVD. If there are then I trash the DVD and do another. I have had only 2 DVD's that I have had to trash.
Let us know when the disks come in and if they help

If I'm reading the spec's on Onkyo'l site correctly and you have one of the 2 6 disc carousel changer listed there...they only like the -R flavor of DVD. Make sure you aren't using +R's.

Don't order those dash's yet. That benq should be able to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom,making those backups highly compatable in more stand alones and other dvd drives!!!! Give those ty plus discs a chance and set it up for booktyping. They should impress you!

You can't go by what someone else says about your player either playing plus, dash, both,or none. I've seen many stand alones that specified not playing dash/plus/or none. I've proved many wrong, especially when you have a quality burner that is capable of bittsetting which booktypes the plus format to dvd-rom. This booktyping fools those stand alones into recognizing those booktyped dvds and therefore have a greater chance to play them.

Some stand alones can be tricky, specially those fancy high dollar ones.By booktyping, your player may be tricked into playing those booktyped plus format backups. You've got 3 different formats to mess around with on your benq 1625: Plus/dash/and booktyped dvd-rom.You've got those 3 formats to try on that stand alone player.

I booktype, using both my benq 1620s, all my plus high quality media to dvd-rom and the stand alone playabiity is phenomenal. 2 times the compatability compared to my dash backups.

Dvd decrypter has a setting to booktype using benq drives. You may want to give that a try if you have compatability issues.Benq also has a utility you can download if necessary. The booktyping is just another option that is available on our drives.
