I use a Sony 500 DVD+r/rw-r/rw drive and I am unable to erase RWs with any application. I can write to CDs and DVD Rs without problems. Any thoughts on what this might be? Would the RW interaction be the first to go in most cases? Seems mighty strange to me. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Dingboy

you can even format the disk and it will erase it! Windows can erase it...... what programs did you use when you tried to erase...... Nero can erase..... many programs can erase an RW disk. or maybe that disk is defective?.... more info please.

Sounds like the drive is faulty if you ask me.

I have been erasing for over 2 years, I know how to do it. I have attempted it with Nero, Veritas RecordNow DX and DLA in windows (XP). The problem is that none of them really removes anything from the disc. I have done it with multiple discs and none of them erase. The process "acts" like it works just that it takes way less time than it did when it functioned and it doesn't remove anything. Weird thing is that that DVD-Rs burn fine and CD-RWs burn and erase without trouble. Is it that DVD-RWs present the most challenge to a burner and whatever gets out of tolerance first as a drive ages (focus of the laser or whatever it may be) would be noticed first in actions with DVD-RWs?

Thanks,
Dingboy

That would be great. I have a new one on order, this would be a simple and understandable solution. Thanks. I'll try to update this thread with the results.

Drive has been replaced and all is working fine.

BTW, prices sure have come down, this burns dual layer and was ~50, the old one was $350 just a about 2.5 years ago.

Thanks for all the help.

Thanks,
Dingboy
