Please someone help i recently bought a ps2 off of ebay with the little money i had left. But it didnt play any cds only silver backed games and dvd's. SO i then found out that the rails that the laser runs on was kind of dull so i pushed it up and down then the ps1 game started to work. So then i turned the ps1 game off and tried it again and the same DRE came up as before. So i then i moved the ps2 laser up and down to see if it is moving freely and it was not.(but it would read dvd's perfectly before) Now everytime i try to boot a game up the laser lens would just move up like it would get ready to read a game and no light would come on or anything and the spindle would spin the game like a half a turn and stop. I guess the ps2 is not recognizing anything in it. Can someone please help me with my problem.

try clean the lens, not nessarily moving it around

im not getting dre's anymore im just getting nothing it would load up and go straight to the browser screen. It would read the disc for like a half a second then stop.

yea superstui im gonna try and clean the lens now as my last resort(tried everyting else changing ribbons, checking etc...) thanks for all you help

Is this a slim PS2? or a older model? If it is a slim you likely need to adjust the voltage for the dvd pot on the laser. It is a little tricky and can totally FUBAR your laser.

I had the same problem as you, ended up fixing it by adjusting the voltage, was back to playing my backups and after finished playing NBA Live for about 20 mins, the ps2 stopped reading my swap magic disc(would just spin after the ps2 logo showed) so i tried adjusting the voltage again and unfortunately i think I burnt out the dvd pot on the laser. Good thing i had already ordered an entirely new Optical block. If its an older PS2 theres a white cog(looks like a gear) that can be adjusted to raise and lower the elevation of the laser, which alot of times fixes reading problems.
