PS2 HDD Backups Quest!

Hi,

I'm new to the PS2 scene and presently have Swap Magic to play my backups. If I was to put a hard drive in my PS2 how would I do it? Can I use a standard IDE HDD?

Also would it be possible to back up my games onto the HDD and play them? How would I go about doing it??
