I've read many of the threads regarding the problems Sony DVD's create when burning. I've been burning discs with DVDXCopy Platinum and am less than happy with the options it has available (plus it can't do Sony DVD's). After reading several threads, I tried an alternate method last night to familiarize myself with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. The process was successful on two non-Sony DVD's, but I had a couple questions before I start potentially burning coasters with Sony movies.

First I was wondering if I can simply use DVD Shrink to rip and edit and DVD Decrypter to burn? I'll have the latest version of AnyDVD running in the background. Should this method take care of Sony's decryption or are more measures necessary?

Next, I noticed that ripping w/ DVD Shrink took about twice as long as XCopy. Is that typical?

If there is a thread/link that addresses this, I apologize.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps this thread could be of some assistance to explain why DVD Shrink takes longer, etc. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47035

temj,

Youre not really supposed to link to other forums so you might want to edit that out.

There are a few combos that you can use.

1) DVD Shrink w/ AnyDVD (if needed) and burn with either DVD Decrypter or my fav. nero

2) Rip with DVDFab and burn with Nero.

From my experiance, DVD Shrink alone will backup 99% of movies, and DVDFab takes care of the Sony ARccoSS (sp?) protection of the rest. I always burn with Nero.

As a side note, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer updated so they will not work for new protection, DVDFab and AnyDVD are updated.

"ARccOS? is the first and only available digital and dynamic DVD-Video copy control which effectively prevents unauthorized DVD copying on PC. ?Our customers are pleased to finally have found a copy control solution for DVD-Video that protects their content successfully."
HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!
