Hi, this is my first post to this forum and I find many of the posts are very informative.
I have this DVD hard drive that I recently installed to my Dell Dimension 4500 with Windows XP ;

http://auctions.overstock.com/cgi-bin/auctions.cgi?PAGE=PRODDET&P...

I was able to copy an unprotected DVD to my hard drive. I tried using Nero StartSmart to burn it to a DVD-R but it failed. I also tried burning it to a DVD+R and it too failed. I got this message, "Could not perform Fixation. Burn process failed...A+8x."
What am I doing wrong? I've messed up 4 disc trying to get it to work and I am running a little out of patience.

If you could help me or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
SL

I do have that item but I paid much less for it. Why, is it not a good brand?

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

I checked the log and saw this;

Compilation cannot be written on that medium type.
(Medium in drive: DVD-R. Medium required by compilation: CD-R/RW.)

I did use a DVD -R and also tried a DVD + R which both failed. I don't understand why it is saying it needs a CD-R/RW. I bought some Phillips DVD+RW. Do you think that might work?

Here is a guide on burning with Nero, take a look at it and make sure you have chosen the right settings and told it a DVD disk in the compilation screen.

- CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. uninstall Roxio and you may have to google search for 'Roxio Zapper' to fully eradicate it. Also, uninstall Nero's horrid and unnecessary packet writing software 'InCD'. to do this, uninstall Nero, uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools and reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD
