I have just bought two LG 16X burners, using any speed single layer media I am not able to burn on the fly.I am using a programme for burning called Image tool. The disks I am trying to burn are backups.

Any reason why I cannot burn on the fly?

I use Image Tool as well and dont even see an option to burn on the fly. It isnt a good idea to burn DVD's on the fly anyway. Maybe its a sign that you cant do it cause you shouldnt do it. :-)

Burning on the fly..?? is a "no go" -- I don't recommend at all, and or it's "not" recommend by the most experiences members here at afterdawn. However, the choice is yours, and that is...if you don't mind making more "coasters" down the road.

On the other hand, it can be the media you're using as well. What kind of media you're using? Don't tell me that it's CMC MAG?

alkohol i burned 1000s of dvds on the fly, as long as you use the right programs, burners and blank media (in my case Taiyo Yuden) it works. wolves download a try Nero ,use good blank media (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burn at 4x i very seldom get coasters doing this

another option is run it though DVD Decrypter iso read iso write

yours may have read errors if you think they do use dvd decrypter

I agree with Aabbccdd! I burned many DVDs on the fly! Good media, burn slow (4x)! I used to use DVDCopy3, that would burn on the fly if there is no compression. It would also burn at max speed.... which is one reason why I don't use that anymore. If I do use it I copy to a folder then burn! But everyone is right for their own reasons, cause burning on the fly does cause more coasters than any reason I know. I don't burn on the fly unless I am making a copy of a copy, and my media is top notch (I only burn Taiyo Yuden, DVD+R,at 4x-8x, with booktype to DVD-ROM).

If you are going to burn on the fly it is better to have your read and write drives on different IDE channels. That could be part of your problem.

hey - i'm the king rambler!. lol. anyway, i do on the fly with CD's only, and even then i only do it via hard disc first. With dvd's i'd recommend against it, but as you can see, some of the guys do recommend it.

you can't ramble more than me! I am a constant! ... as far as burning on the fly.... I only recommend it with a good quality media and you know that the back up copy is free of errors! That's the only time I burn on the fly!

Thanks for your replies guys.

How do I check if my drives are on different IDE channels?

If I put them on diff. channels will this stop the computer crashing?

I use verbatim and only burn on the fly from copy to copy,or I did.

If they are on the same IDE cable and one is slave and one is master then they are on the same IDE channel. If one is on the same IDE cable with your hdd and set as slave then they are on seperate IDE channels. You should also be able to tell in device manager.

burning on the fly nice subject.
your read speed must be 6 times your write speed,if you use Nero you can test the burn speed setting through the program. yes its long and boring the first time, but it tells you what your pc is going to rip your film at without faulting.have tried all the methods ,cable select and the others all work perfect if the write speed is applied for your software and pc. no costers here boys even with bad discs lol

Well then, there you go..My prob went from bad to worse, until eventually I could no longer reboot.

Problem turned out to be the "new" power supply I bought back in July.I am Up and running again and burning without coasters.
