ok I read the DVD-R no no post, but since I don't know what that means I hope I'm not in violation of something here....
anyways I'm using smartripper, then using DVD2AVi to create a .d2v file, but once its done my Vfapi reader codec wont open it, keeps giving me a wierd error message like
_______C:\Temp\divx\blood\________.
and it has an X sign beside it....the error message on top makes no sense either.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ok, what is it you want to do, and what is it you are trying to do ? ;-)
Making a VCD or a DVD ? and why are you using VFAPI Converter for ? and also, which version of it ?

what I'm attempting to do is to rip a DVD onto the hard drive to use it with Adobe Premiere in MVid making. The reason Im using VFAPI is because I ended up here in a search for how to convert DVD to Avi and there was a post about it a while ago where one person was told to use VFAPI to make a sort of fake AVI that mirrors the vob file, but doesn't take up as much room as an Avi would itself. Its version 1.05

Did you use DVD2AVI prior to VFAPI ? cause I think you are missing that step, this will help your frameserving into Premiere.

Ok so I remade the DVD2AVI project file and then it worked in the codec, the problem is when I use the avi created by VFAPI I get this strange frame skip thing. like it will go from 1:10 to 1:40 in on frame and the movie gets all glitchy, any idea's why?

That's strange, it shouldn't happen, have you tried to also re-do the VFAPI since you did re-create the D2V file.

Actually I have seen that happen many times when converting to an AVI if I view the vfapi file in virtualdub. I go ahead with the conversion process though and it comes out fine so I have always chalked it up to virtualdub.

yep, re-did VFAPI conversion as well. Though with VFAPI the only thing I can see that is possibly wrong is when I add the D2V file it gives me a chack box with:
Video output
Video output with VFAPI Codec.
The last times where I got the lagged strange version I left both checked, you think that could be the problem?

No, I don't think so, I keep them both checked as well, which version of DVD2AVI are you using ? some people report problems with latest 1.77.3, so you might want to try 1.76 instead

hmmm...this is strange if I open the avi file created by the VFAPI in Virtual dub it works perfectly, the only problem is if I save it from Virtual dub it will take up multiple gigs of memory that I don't have.....very strange indeed.

I'm not sure I understand, how are you saving it in VirtualDub ? only if you use an Uncompressed AVI it will take Gbytes of space.

Oh, im taking the glitchy Avi file from Vfapi and opening it in Virtual Dub and it works perfectly, then I select save as Avi, and the small portion that comes out before I tell it to stop is also perfectly well done, no glitches.......but of course it will take up multitudes of gigs which I don't have.

Ok, so here is the big question, why on earth are you saving as an AVI ??? you are supposed to do FrameServing and use that to encode.
Why are you saving it as an AVI ? and on top of that, an Uncompressed AVI where each 10min can take 1gig! or more
