OK, so let me preface this by saying that I have never modded anything ever. I am teh sucks, I know.

Well, I am at college, and that means 0 money coming in, lotsa money going out. With the release of SOCOM 3, Shadow of the Colussus, and SSX 4, I am really wishing I had the ability to emulate.

Then it dawned on me. I bought the PS2 HDD with FFXI on it. Let's just say, it's not getting much use. I know you can run games off the HDD using HD Loader and whatnot. So, what is the most cost effective way of doing such? Can I download HD loader and burn it as an image file?

I appreciate any help I can get here, fellas.

No you cannot burn it and use it unless you have some way to boot it (mod chip, swap magic, etc). You would have to buy it but you could not play online games like Socom off the hard drive.

So what would be your reccomendation for playing burns, or backing up, etc etc? Keep in mind, I am looking cost effective (ie, cheap ass). ^^

Another question is this. A guy in my form as the swap magic fliptop. If we installed the HDD into his machine, loaded HDloader, and then placed it back into my PS2, would that work?

Also, I have a Japanese PS2. Could I install the HDD into that PS2 and use HD Loader to play American games? The reason I ask is because I could just trade in my American PS2 if that is the case.
