I did it! It worked. I cannot believe it. After trying for more then 2 years to burn a DVD for stand alone use I finally figured it out when I found this website (you guys) and carefully, over 2 days, followed everything mentioned here...

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm

...and found success. The Movie (Snatch, Brad Pitt, Jason Stratham etc...) came out very clear with dead on sound quality etc. Only thing is, it's shown in 4:3 T.V. sizing when it's original size was widescreen (16:9?) on my computer. The image is a bit elongated. I used TMPGEnc Plus to encode the source and then used IFOEdit for authoring the DVD. The media used was Memorex DVD+R. I am guessing that during the first couple screens, when setting up "TMPGEnc Plus" to encode the movie, I should have choosen "NTSC 16:9" instead of just plain old "NTSC"?

I have other questions but will start here and post my other questions seperately.

Thanks to whomever is patient enough to out there to help us loosers figure this out.

Yes, you have answered your own question you checked the wrong box or didn't check it. Sounds like your on the right track and not as stupid as you implied. One suggestion for you - Get rid of the Memorex and buy some better quality media, Verbatim or Sony and Fuji, look for made in Japan cake boxes or singles.
I don't recognize your name welcome to AD.

Framit,

Thanks for the reply. You suggest better quality media. When you say "look for made in Japan cake boxes" what does that mean... what in the hay bails is a "cake box"?

Cake Box refers to the plastic package that multi pacs of CD and DVD blanks come in, like lots of 25,50, or 100 blanks. It seems like the majority of media is made in Taiwan these days, but thankfully some are still made in Japan and are much better quality. Look for the brands I mentioned made in Japan and you should be alright.
Made in Japan - remember the good old days when that was a joke.
