I am using a brand new ibook to backup and play my DVD's (I watch movies on my laptop) and have noticed that when I play the ripped DVD, the DVD player on the ibook is very loud, as if it is "struggling" to play the DVD/read the data. Has anyone else noticed or encountered this? Any suggestions? It is kind of distracting, especially during quiet parts of the movie...
If the drive is "clicking" or "clacking" it is likely struggling to read the DVD for some reason. If it is "whirring" and "swooshing" (speeding up slowing down) that's normal. I have one laptop that is very noisy and one that's pretty quiet. Out of curiosity, at what speed did you burn and what brand of media did you use?
Hi, thanks for the response...it is more of a "whirring" and "swooshing" noise...but it is pretty much constant, the entire length of the movie. I burned to Sony DVD's, at 4X.
If it's working (i.e., playing the DVD) then I'm pretty sure the noise is just the drive speeding up and slowing down. Laptop drives always seem noisier to me than full size drives.
That's just it though- when playing regular DVD's, the drive makes absolutely no noise at all. When playing back the burned copies though, the drive is whirring, etc., the whole movie.
