I bought a brand new DVD of an old favourite "Kentucky Fried Movie". ITs been viewed on different players and computers.

I went to view it and now it is blank. I see no apparent damage. It has been through x-ray at airports. It doesn't appear to be warped. I've tried playing it in different machines.

Any thoughts on how a DVD such as this could be erased. Its not a re-writable DVD.

I know next to nothing about the technical side of things so any feedback would be appreciated. I'm really curious how something like this could happen. I contacted the stores and its a mystery to them. It was suggested to contact a site such as yours.

Thank you.

What do you mean it's blank, is it because it wouldn't play, or is it because you've checked and there are no files/data on the disc whatsoever?

There are no files/data on it whatsoever. It plays and nothing shows up but a blank screen. Thanks for your reply.

It sounds like the disc is for one region, where did you buy it and what country are you trying to play it in, I ask cause you said its been through x-ray at airport, I have never, never, never heard of a store bought disc doing that

It was purchased at Best Buy in California. It may not be as big a mystery as I thought. I guess its trash at this point any way. Thank you for your quick reply. I was more curious than anything as to how this could happen. I suspected the x-ray machines but was told that was unlikely to erase a DVD movie. After thinking about it some more there is the possibility that this was the first time I've actually viewed this particular DVD. In the past I have borrowed the DVD and this may have been first time I've tried to view the purchased DVD and maybe it was blank all along. After all, this "classic" is not something we watch on a regular basis; but it has great sentimental value when rehashing old times. That would make the most sense at this point so hopefully that is what really happened. Oh well, I'll have to order a new one! So maybe the mystery is my faulty memory. Have a great day!

That make sense since you always browwed it to watch and this is the first time you watched the one you bought, there have been more bad presses lately of movies then I can remember, movie companys are gettig gready and I think thats why this is happing, they are trying to produce them faster, but glad you figured it out

Since it could be the first time you played the dvd, you might want to check whether the format (e.g. +/-) is compatible. Don't want to find that out after the next order comes.
