This is the wierdest thing, and I'd rather fix it instead of buying a new player. My panasonic PV-D4744S is finicky as all get out with 16x media. It will sometimes play them, but when you first put a 16x backup in it will spin, stop, click, click, spin, stop, click, click, spin, spin faster, spin faster, spin faster, calm down... then plays. wierd wierd. So then it will get into the opening parts of the movie, and stop and tell me that I should check for scratches (the usual error message when it can't read something). It's at all different spots that it will stop playing. Sometimes it's right away, sometimes it's in the main menu, sometimes it's during the opening studio advertisement or FBI warnings. It is almost always during a track change though... if that helps. After taking the disc out, putting it back in, and trying again about 5-10 times, I'll finally get the movie to play and it will play fine. What's wierd is, the discs are fine, and so is the player. I've tried the discs in other players and they work great. The player will play 8x burns of the exact DVD just fine. I've updated my firmware on my burner. I'm using taiyo yuden discs, so I know it's not a media quality issue. I'm still burning at 4x or so regardless of whether I use 8x or 16x blanks, so I know it's not a burn speed issue. I've tried a lens cleaning kit, but since all my 8x burns play just fine all I can think is it just can't handle 16x media.... which makes no sense to me.
Any help would be gladly appriciated as it will save me from having to buy another player.
