After buying a BenQ 1640 I read the statement below in a review, is this difficult? What do I need to do? How do you set jumpers to cable select? I haven't yet received it, and am afraid this will prove diffiucult. Thanks guys.
Installed burner after setting jumpers to cable-select (jumper setting was on slave when shipped)
On the back of the unit are a few connectors. There are also a set of of six pins thet have a jumper connecting two of them. You need to make sure that the jumper is vertically connecting the right two pins. (as you see them when looking at the rear of the unit right side up)

If you are replacing an existing optical drive, just make sure that the jumper settings are the same as the one you are removing. Yes it does come with the jumper setting to slave, which is the middle position as you will see when it arrives.
Man, Thanks alot guys! I'll defintely use the advice. I'm replacing a HP 300i, should the back of the BenQ look the same (wires and all), and should it plug in the same? Thanks again.
They should be very similar. The ribbon cable should go on the same way and also the 4 lead power connector as well.
As catfreak stated, just make sure that you select the SAME pin selection on those 3 sets of 2 pins, one above the other with a jumper positioned on one pair of those pins. When you see it all will make more sense.
Good luck and let us know how your burns fair once installed.
