Please help.

I was successfully using DVD decrypter to make back up copies of my PS2 games. Using Ritek DVD-R media on a Sony DW-D22A. Burned the back up at the slowest speed 1x to make sure it's a good burn.

Just today, for some unknown reason, DVD decrypter started to write at a higher speed then the set speed of 1x and would reach up to 4x. I checked the log file and that's highlighted as an error (actual write speed exceeded set speed.) I tried it three different times, and 2 were coasters and 1 was OK.

Does anyone know why decrypter would be writing faster than the set speed. I searched the forum and found some posts about how decrypter would write SLOWER than the set speed, but have not found anything similar to my situation.

Would greatly appreciate some input from the experts on this board.

Thanks.

mine always has. It usually writes at what it thinks the best speed for the media you have in the drive is
like it writes my 8X DVD's at between 3.8 and 5X
but it works every time so i never questioned that, 4X is a fine speed if you use good 8X media

thanks for the reply steimy.

Whereas yours has always written at higher speed like that, mine was reliably writing at the set speed of 1x, but it all of the sudden changed. I'm just confused about why it changed. Of the 3 that I burned under this higher actual speed, 2 have been coasters, but prior to this, I never had problems burning at 1x. I'm using exactly the same media without change.

The fact that the log file highlights this as an error should be concerning, shouldn't it?

Are you really sure it was burning at 1x before. I have mine set to 1x but it always has burned at 4x. Another thing could be that you switched media or firmware possibly? I know there is no media I have found yet that will burn below 4x with my burner. Don't know why, guess it's just the way it is, but as Steimy stated 4x should be just fine. That's what I burn mine at as well.

thanks for the reply Itzamna36.

Yeah, I'm sure it burned at 1x because I got in the habit of checking the log file after each burn just to see what I can learn about it. The highest it's ever gotten was 1.9x, but that must be within normal limits because decrypter didn't highlight it as an error.

Only since yesterday when it started burning at 4x, did I start seeing the error. I have made no firmware or media change, so it is perplexing why this is happening.

I'm sure you & Steimy are correct in that burning at 4x is fine. But I made 2 recent coasters and never had any before, so I'm trying to figure out why.

Thank you for your input.
