I presently only have a huge hard drive to copy to first but in 2 days will have a external DVDRW drive + one on my computer(burner)so, can I use one for source and one for target? if so, what's the best proceedure for me with all these programs I have?? THANKS

You've got some great programs above. Below is what I used and I find it extremely fast as well. However, we're all entitled to our own preferences and perspectives, so go with whatever that floats in your boat.

** DVD Decrypter - to rip/decrypt into my hard drive (anywhere from 10 - 15 mins to rip)
** Nero Recode 2 - to encode and edit anything that I don't want (12 - 15 mins to encode)
** Nero Burning Rom - to burn/backup (8 mins to successfully burned)

I also have InterVideo DVD Copy 3 & 4, DVDFAB Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but I hardly use them. InterVideo DVD Copy 3 & 4 produced great quality and it's extremely fast, but I don't like the fact that it can't change the book type or bitsettings, whereas Nero Burning Rom can easily booktype all of my backups to DVD-ROM flawlessly.

another option also is using CloneDVD 2 since you all ready have AnyDVD there made for eachother and very easy to use and you dont need a bunch of harddrive space using the program since it saves it to a temp. file then burns the image and deletes it follow this guide and you will be set .remember to use good blank media as in Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burn at 4x max.

My method is AnyDVD in the background, DVDdecryptor and DVDShrink. This process has not failed me yet.

I also have CloneDVD2, but have not used it as much as it does not allow me to booktype to DVD-ROM.

Good luck and happy burning. Stick around and post your questions. You will learn a lot, I know that I have.

Actually, with CloneDVD Version 2.8.5.1, if your burner's firmware supports bitsetting "by default" (as the expression goes), then when you choose +R DL from the output dropdown list, Clone will automatically finalize booktype to DVD-ROM.

Update to the latest version of CloneDVD then Go to http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?s=5b6cfb9fa44f1c5191a58... and register and start a thread which names your burner brand&model, firmware version and state your question. Those guys have dead-on-b*lls accurate answers (or provide you with info links) about CloneDVD because that is where CloneDVD's major players hang...including Olli who wrote the program. A few of them are a little terse in their replies but most of them are great.

Also, Elby is about 9-months pregnant with a new version of CloneDVD which may make the user interface a little more obvious as far as booktyping goes.

why all the fuss about DVD Decrypter?
shrink does it from start to finish no need to decrypt files at all
it even tells Nero to burn the finished product

DVD Shrink wont rip all DVD's, At least thats what ive found with it. DVD Decrypter is also good for DVD's that are heavily scratched as it can get threw it better.

I also have Alcohol 120%, really don't understand what it does yet, would there be a better way with this? So far I like the AnyDVD in background wit Shrink and Decrypter. Thanks for all the feedback I'm sure I'll eventually try a dozen differt ways.

Thanks for the info. I have the current version of CloneDVD, I just checked. I will be backuping SpyGame and Cursed tonight. I will give it a try and once finished check the back up with DVDinfopro.

Thanks for the heads up. I emailed slysoft with my question about booktyping and they email me back and said that they would pass the recommendation on to the software developers. Its good to know that a newer version is coming too.

Thanks.

@Whisperer

I went to the cdfreaks sight and did some searching. This thread indicates that CloneDVD only does the booktype on +R DL's. Do you read it the same?

Ya, I forgot to mention that. SL +R doesn't get booktyped. I think it was because the posts were mostly about DL that I failed to mention. We are waiting (hoping) for the next update to include that. Again, I'd caution that your burner/firmware has to support, bitsetting "by default", for this feature to work. For instance, I think the light-on does but my pioneer 109 does not... without hacked firmware.

Good thread you found. My info to you came from bits and pieces of other threads that I just remembered. Olli actually participated in the thread that you found. Making it a much more definitive thread.

Come back and tell or post the DVDinfopro results and translate for me (us). I never used DVDinfopro and don't know how to interpret them since I have been splitting -R disks my whole backup "career" because of the player compatibility of -R.

Thanks
