DVD movies burned on computer won't play on DVD player

I have a Sony DRX-500UL drive to burn dvd's. I have used XCOPY. My player attached to my TV is a Sony DVP-S330. The movie burns and plays on my computer but when I put the disk into my player attached to the tv it can't find the disk. I have tried dvd-rw, dvd+rw and dvd +r all to no avail. Could there be some setting I'm missing?

Used XCOPY ???
Exactly what did you do ? cause with XCOPY you can't create a DVD Compatible anything!

Lets put it this way, when you use XCopy, do the movies you make work on the DVD Player ?

I had a similar problem with a Sony DVP-S530 and it turns out mine will only read DVD-R. Not -RW, not +R and not +RW. I also have the sony 500ul. I've had perfect luck with ritek 4x -r media.
