Hey Everyone,

I am new to the ps2 burning scene. I know before anyone looks at this post and start saying look around before you ask questions. I have tried to find the problem that I am looking for using the search feature with many different keywords. So I am writing here hoping to find help with my problem. I recently just purchased a ps2 flip-top case with the latest version on swap magic. I have been buring dvd's for a while now and I have dvd decryptor, dvd shrink, nero and all the movies I have burn work just fine. But apparently I am terrible on buring games. I have a 16x burner and I usually use 8x Memorex DVD-R disk to back up my movies. I have read a couple of tutorials on how to burn a ps2 games. I have made 5 copies so far so I am far from a professional and 1 only works and its the newest YS games. What I have notice though is that when I burn the game and load it up with swap magic it plays for a little bit then it starts making a clicking noise and if you look over top of the disk. You can see the laser jerking back and forth. Then the game starts playing but freezes every once and a while. Then sometimes it will just make the clicking noise and still play. I first notice it when trying to play the original copy of GTA: San Andreas and it was giving me a disk read error. I did some search on google for the error and people said that it has actually messed up their ps2. What I do not understand is that all my other original copy of games play fine. But if I go to play a burnt game or the GTA: Series it start the clicking noise again. So last night I changed disk to Imation DVD+R and I experiented with "Enter The Matrix" burning it at 2x and then experiented with "Narc" buring it at 4x with dvd decryptor. To see if my playstation liked a better media type or brand not saying that Imation is better than Memorex cause honestly I do not know. Anywas "Narc" does the clicking sound alot, but "Enter the matrix" does it only every once and awhile. So I am think that my ps2 likes games burnt at 2x but possibly I am not doing it right. I am not trying to make this too confusing and if I has misspelled anything I am sorry. Please can anyone tell me anything about my problem. Whether I am buring the games wrong and what it causing my ps2 to make the clicking sound and moving the disk eye back and forth. I really would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me on this issue. Also if I am using shit media disk please tell me.

Thanks,
DirtyPan

First off, the media you have been using is absolute crap. You can't burn PS2 games with discs like these and have very many of them work. Get some Taiyo Yudens, Ritek or some like Verbatim too (not me personally though). I had games that wouldn't even get to the first load screen on crap media and now work perfectly fine on some Taiyo Yudens.

The bad media will also cause much stress to your laser. If you're having problems on originals as well, I would suggest cleaning your laser. It is a fairly simple process, and there are guides around on how to do this. If you still have problems, you may need to adjust the voltage, which the process is in those same guides.

Or you could end up like me, and my PS2 will only work without the screws in it. Don't ask me why. I'm still stumped too.

Hopefully this helps you. Try the media first. Something Made in Japan at least.

Hi there - getting swap magic 3.6 tommorrow and was wanting to know how easy it is to backup ps2 games. I have seperate dvd rom and re-writer drives. I have Nero 6 and DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Is it just a case of burning disc to disc using Nero or does it depend on the game itself?

Imation and Memorex are both crap media, I suggest using Yudens or Verbatim or something of good quality.

Tried all the media above and Tayio Yuden is the best.

Get Tayio Yuden discs from Supermediastore.com 100 pack for $28. Sweet deal

Quality is very important with ps2 backups.

Version 1 PS2
Fliptop lid
Swap Magic 3.6
NEC 3250A 16x DL burner
Tayio Yuden 8x Media

Does it matter on the type DVD+R or DVD-R? Also do I need to buy the disk at 4x or is it okay to use 8x and just burn them at 4x. Thanks to everyone that has answered my question I really do appreciate.

Thanks,

Media TDK FUJI FILM MAXELL all will work fine but make sure you get the right ones Look for MADE IN JAPAN on the label... Burn at 2x - 4x no faster than 4x .. DVD-R perfered but if your burning supports Bit Setting AKA Booktype then you can set a DVD+R to DVD-ROM
http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php (INFO ON BITSETTING)

Make sure your firmware is up to date.. You can do this in DVD Decrypter by going to tools Drive check for Firmware updates.. It will bring you to a web page that will list the current firmware for your drive...

My burner is a piece of crap. It only burns DVD+R, at 2.4x! My PS2 and Xbox read them though... Some newer games have been giving me some trouble though. Killer7, Resident Evil 4, etc. Any ideas?

Could be the Media.. Some media doesn't like to be burnt at 2.4x can your burner only burn at 2.4x or can it burn at 1x & 2x also? if it can I'd suggest just burning at 2x as much as possible... to many problems burning at 2.4x...

What kind of drive do you have? and is its firmware up to date?

I can burn at 1x, 2x, 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x, etc.. I was just wondering what was the best to burn at and if I still burn on the memorex till I get some new quality disk will it tear up my PS2. If I have to buy a new PS2 are the Slimline model reliable.

Thanks,

I use Phillps +r 4 speed but burn at 1 and never had a problem. 100 for $30, can't beat that.
