Help: DVD(plus,minus)RW drive does not read DVD(plus) discs

I have a Samsung DVD(plus,minus)R/RW drive ( read , write speed 8X.
It plays movie, reads and writes CD discs without any problems.
It burns the CD(plus) R discs, not showing any errors.

However, when I tried to access the burnt discs, I receive either a message

"there is no disc in the drive"

or "insert the disc in the drive"

Moreover, upon insertion of a blank disc into the drive

a) the dvd drive icon changes into a CD drive icon

b)it takes a long time for the light in the drive to stop blinking.

You probably need to have a firmware upgrade. Visit the 3rd link in my signature and see if you do.

Does it not recognize the blank media or a dvd? Not clear on this.
What burning program do you have?
