I have searched the forums to see if my problem was answered, and it wasn't, so here goes.
I have converted the VOB files from a DVD into a variable bit rate SVCD (MPEG-2) file with TMPGEnc. The file plays absolutely fine on my computer. I then used TMPGEnc to multiplex the file with the header of a standard VCD - http://www.geocities.com/newestmoviesencode/dvdvcd - this should make my DVD player play an SVCD (which it doesn't naturally support) by fooling it in to thinking it is playing a VCD. Then I burned the file as a VCD with Nero on the lowest speed - 4x - with a Plextor 40/12/40A. I have tried this trick before with a constant bitrate SVCD file, and it worked. But with this file the video comes out ever so slightly jerky. Is this because I have used a variable bit rate file? The disc plays fine on my computer's DVD software, and also on my friends DVD player which also does not support SVCD. Why does it not play on my player?

After you converted the dvd to svcd, use VCDEAsy (SVCD) and burn at 4/8x. VCD video quality really isn't worth the effort to encode so after you burn your file(s) and if they don'y play on your home dvd player, go to your local Wal_Mart and get an SVCD "compliant" home dvd player. You can find them very cheap these days. Yes, VCD video quality really bites! Look for the "PBC" function on your dvd player or remote(enabled), if you don't see that function on your player or remote, chances are your dvd player won't play scvd format.

I recommend you use DVD2SVCD 1.1.2 using CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder) or Canopus ProCoder.
